I need some good recipes for low sugar and low carb food does any one know of some good websites for this or does any one have any advice on what is a good thing to eat that wont affect his sugar any advice would be great also does any one know if onion is alright for him to eat i know the DR said for him to pretty much stay away from root veggies does this mean onion too

Onions are good and should not be a problem.

From my exp, had to take med for 3-4 months then the doc took me off the med.

1. Try to reduce weight. (ask him to have smaller portions spread through the day)
2. Exercise
3. Eat lots of green veg. Specially make Salad one full meal or the major portion of the meal.
4. Avacado and Color ful bell peppers help a lot. Eat lots of them in salads.
5. Natrully reduce the sugar intake increase the water intake at leat 8 bottels a day.

Check out Diabetes UK - they have a recipe section on their website. Not sure why to stay away from root vegatables as these are v. low in Carbs and so shouldn't really impact on BG levels. Also a low GI diet would work well.

Try a low sugar and carb diet book. Buy him Atkins food...it is based on a low carbohydrate diet and is healthy for you.

Onions are not root vegetables, which grow below ground and ARE roots. Potatoes, carrots, beets, parsnips...
