Children with diabetes is an excellent site. http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/index_cwd.htm They have great conferences too. I been to several. Friends For Life is my favorite. I have meet several kids my age and it feels like we knew each other for ever. There is also a great diabetes forum that I use. www.diabetesdaily.com
There is a good place for him too. I used to go on here a lot when i was younger. http://www.diabetesteentalk.com/life.html
It is hard, but manageable. I was diagnosed when I was 9 and now I am 22. Fine, with no complications. Its just an adjustment but soon it will be like every day routine.

There area number of diabetes organization and activities that will help. You should be able to find one in your area. Diabetes.org Is the web site of the American Diabetes Association. It is a good place to start. They should have a group near you that you can visit and find the help you need. The hardest part is going to be adjusting to a proper diet. By finding a group with kids his own age who are going through what he is facing should help. It will also help if he sees some older diabetics so he will understand what the cost of not following a proper diet plan are(health wise).

Medication he is given will help with his blood sugar balance
If he gets too much sugar he will bounce around and then crash Candy is not the only sugar Fruit's count as sugar too.
crash doesn't always mean sleep it means cranky winey angry frutrated easily, doesn't really want to deal with people much.
If he feels sluggish like he's too tired or just can't get up in the morning it's because he went 8 hours of so without food to help him balance his blood sugar. A good breakfast with protein and a small I repeat small cup of apple juice will get him going.
Snack for school will help too around 2:00 to 3:00 he's going to get tired again. he may have trouble staying awake in class
his princeiple can help get you started with him being allowed to have an afternoon snack at school certain teacher's class
which ever period is after 2 PM
If you'd like more help just let me know
I have a diabetic 3 year old
Wooh Talk about taking the fun out of life! What he eats will dictate how he feels I can't give my son medication so my biggest weapon for blood sugar is the correct food at the correct times
6 meals a day instead of 4
hope it helps

Ask his doctor if there are support groups in you area. Meeting with others his age with the same condition will certainly be of help to him and meeting other parents with children like your own will be good for you.

hahahaha.... funny! our research project is connected to this question.......anyway, our research was about "Bignay". It's found here in the Phil. and other Asian countries.... they are already sold in clusters in Indonesia. farmers here in the Phil. make tea out of its leaves by boiling it and is drinked by diabetic and hypertensive people..... But if you don't want a self-prepared medicine, try some bottled medicines and pharmaceutical which is composed of bitter gourd! It's very good and effective too!.... but to be very sure, try to consult your doctor for best results!

I add a link for UK support groups,

http://www.equip.nhs.uk/
topics/diabetes.html

--And one with details of groups in Canada and USA.

http://www.afdr.ab.ca/
content.php?id=231

If you contact any of them, they may be able to guide you to one in your area.

Hope this helps
