I have cardiomyopathy with a history of congestive hearth failure. I would like have a baby in the near future, but my doctor said I have to get off the Lisinapril, that could cause problems with my history of CHF. Does anyone know of a similar drug or similar acting drug like Lisinapril

Lisinopril is an Ace Inhibitor that lowers your blood pressure. It helps the heart pump more efficiently. You need to find out the reason why your doc put you on the med in the first place. Was it because your blood pressure was too high? If so, there are plenty of other meds you can take. Also, there are other Ace Inhibitors you can take. You just need to talk to your doc. Ace Inhibitors acrually treat heart failure, so I'm a little concerned as to why he would want to take you off that - unless it was due to you being pregnant. Anyway, good luck with having a baby!

there are many other pressure/diuretic drugs out there. the question is do you need a beta-blocker? do you need a calcium channel blocker? do you need a mix of a pressure drug and a diuretic like hydrochlorothiazide? (hctz for short.) don't be afraid to ask your doctor questions! this is YOUR life, and possibly a future life! (good luck with that!) if you don't do well under pressure, then research on the net drugs to treat chf/cardiomyopathy and make a list of questions to present to your cardiologist. (hopefully you see a cardiologist and not just a family doc for this.) together you can find a solution! take care and god bless!

if you are pregnant, you should NOT use ANY medication in same class as lisinopril (which is ACE inhibitor). the reason is because it is bad for the fetus.

diuretics are also NOT recommended as you will need more fluid during your pregnancy.

pregnancy is hard on your heart, and also can cause cardiomyopathy in rare cases also.

you should discuss this more in depth with your doctor instead of relying lay people. you can do serious harm to your potential fetus if you are not careful.

The closest drug related are the ARBs like Losartan. Lisinopril is tetragenic like Losartan. Metoprolol XL, a beta blocker, a drug which all CHF should be on is pregnancy level C, and so, you might be able to take it if you talk with your doctor.
