I was diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes June 28. Before that, in 2006, I weighed 192, Feb. 07, 177, then 166 when diagnosed.
(Not sure why I lost, since I ate out a lot, and fast foods about 3x a week). I am on Metformin pills, 1500 mg/day. 4 months later, I am eating healthier, but not exercising much, and I am now 161 lbs. I am tempted to eat more food to get back to 170, as I have a medium frame, but not sure how without raising glucose levels. Any ideas folks?

I got my monthly AIC back today, it is at 6.5%, down from 12.1% when originally diagnosed at end of June. Nurse said the Dr. said I can increase my calorie intake, but will get me more details tomorrow. She also said that Metformin sometimes causes weight loss.

You lost the weight because of high glucose levels and too much insulin in your system. It eats off the fats in the bod then starts in on the muscles!

I was diagnosed after losing too much weight! That was why I went to the doctor.

I wouldn't fret too much about gaining back the weight too fast. No, don't go eating too much just to get your weight back up. Yes, it is miserable to be too skinny, but you do realize that most type 2s have the opposite problem?

I weighed in at 110 at 5'4" up until the doc started me on insulin!! She didn't titrate it up! No, she started me at about 50 units a day!! I ballooned!! I now weigh in at 170 after that regimen. Got a new doc, but cannot lose the weight and keep glucose under control at the same time.

Type 2 on orals and insulins and very tight food plan along with exercising.

Take this complaint to your doctor. After you have been diabetic for awhile you may be able to adjust your meds and food. But you need to stick with your doctors direction until you stabilize or he will not be able to give you the proper balance of food and medicine. The suggestion of insulin is a good one I have heard that type II's are doing much better the sooner they are put on insulin. But again wait for the doctor to decide.

Wal-Mart sells a 16-ounce bag of World Kitchens beef jerky for around $8.50 . . cut up and weigh 1-ounce portions. Jennie-O turkey franks. String cheese sticks. 1-ounce portions (around 1/3 cup) of snack mix made from 1-part party peanuts, 1-part small crushed corn chips, and 2-parts no-sugar puffed wheat or rice. Blend sugar-free pudding powder with water and low-carb (4 grams) vanilla yogurt instead of milk for 1/2 cup servings. For a sugar-free float, blend around 1-1/4 cup A&W diet root beer, 1/2 cup vanilla pudding, and 6 ice cubes. Chocolate pudding makes good fudge pops.
