There's such a vast difference between what RV/Trailer camping people ask and what Backpackers and Tent Camping people ask, I think Yahoo should make two, even three categories. (I'd have backpacking a seperate category as well.) If Curling has it's own category in Winter Sports (and I can't think that more people hurl stones on ice than either RV or tent camp), then I think there should be some seperation among the various kinds of camping.
Who else agrees?

Yeah...I didn't think of the band camp category. There was way too many "Summer Camp" questions this year.

I think the US questions should be seperate from UK questions about everything...not just camping.

There are fewer questions in the list now due to the fact that most people in the N. Hemisphere don't think about camping in Nov....wait until June and July. You'll see the "What should I take camping?" question get posted four times in one week.

While I agree that Backpacking is completely different, I rarely see backpacking specific questions. Not enough to warrant it's own category.

I think it would be helpfull if there were more camping questions being posted.
That said, if they are clumped together, then more people will potentialy get exposed to new ieas, backpacker to RV and visa versa.
I can help you pack and choose gear for a few weeks in the mountains at minimal weight, but I have no idea what UV protector to put on RV wheels!

No. I agree there is a vast difference between RV camping and tent camping. I am more of a backpacker and there is a large difference between car camping and backpack camping. However, at the time I am writing this there are only 9 questions in the camping category. Seems like an awful big waste for me to have to go through all these different categories when I can usually figure out the difference by the questions themselves.

YES! RV camping is not camping. It's just taking your small house on the road with you to bother those of us who actually camp and don't like to hear things running, other than deer, rabbits, and such when out in the woods.
I also agree that there definately should be a separate category for backpacking, since it's totally different from camping. In my outdoor yahoo group we use the terms, "car camping", "primitive camping", and "backpacking", to let the guys know exactly what to expect. We don't have an RV term, since it's NOT camping.

It'd be nice if they had separate camping categories so that people can direct their queries towards a group who will best be able to answer them, but I enjoy reading all the questions about different types of camping and reading the answers, too. Even though I've been camping for 40+ years, I always learn something. And hopefully, having done all the different kinds of camping (tenting, backpacking, RVing) I can contribute something useful, too.
Ideally, we could then pre-select what camping categories we want to list on our group homepage.

I do care and would love to see it. It is so hard to find a good place to tent camp. Many RV parks don't want tenters. I bought the Woodall's 2007 tenting guide and it missed several good spots that I know of in my state. We should have a forum to share the places we know.
I agree with the idea of having three separate categories. I don't backpack any more but used to love it. I live in an RV but don't travel with it as gas is too high.

I count only 11 camping questions currently listed on Yahoo Answers. With so few questions compared to other categories, why subdivide?

I agree. There are to many differences between RVing and Camping. But I agree, at least at this time of year, there aren't really enough questions to worry about it.

I guess so but how hard is it to just skip over five questions that are posted in the camping section of Yahoo?

Yes. And they should also have seperate categories for log cabin camping, camping out under the open sky, backyard camping under a bed sheet held up by a clothes line, fat camping and band camping. There can never be enough camping categories.
