I've heard recently that some vegetarians and vegans are upset with PETA because of the "horrible" things they do and the lies they tell us. Is this true? I've also heard that most vegetarians/vegans don't support PETA because of specific reason, though I don't know what those are. Can you please elaborate and give details? I'm so confused. I've always supported PETA, but now I"m reconsidering this. ??? Help, please!

I'm kindof on the fence. I don't really trust them. They were telling people to go vegan because eggs are a chicken's period. THat makes no sense. Chickens aren't even mammals. I don't know. But i don't really support them. They've also sent letters to Randy Jackson (american idol) and the director of the lord of the rings movies telling them to go vegan because theyre over weight. I also think being veggie is a personal decision, and i dont support them going aroung throwing red paint on people wearing fur.

I am a vegetarian. My dogs are not. I do believe that people have the right to make their dogs Vegetarian if they please. It's not unhealthy and if people did their research they would know. Don't be ignorant. Also, a vegan/vegetarian diet is way more beneficial than a meat eating diet. If people did their research on this subject they would know that too. The term Vegetarian means you DO NOT eat eggs or anything from an animal. There are sub-genres of vegetarianism for that. I hate when people say "I'm a vegetarian but not strict", no, you are not a vegetarian. You're something else. Yes, if you're a vegan or veggie for Animal Rights reason, wearing fur or wool or leather or whatever it is, is hypocritical. Nope, not a Peta member. I'm just into living a clean, healthy lifestyle with no bad karma. I think I'm doing a swell job! Oh, it's also proven that vegetarians and vegans are highly intelligent. More so than others. Look it up. It's true!

Peta has never lied. The stories about pets being euthanized is completely false. Peta doesn't even have a shelter facility but rather supports and works with shelters. The rumors started after a quote by Ingrid Newkirk was published. She was talking about when she worked for animal control how difficult it was to put down so many animals due to injuries or over-population. This is what sparked her enthusiasm towards animal rights. It had nothing to do with Peta. This was a person experience for her prior to becomeing part of Peta. This quote was taken out of context and was used by many Anti-peta websites to try and deface the organization.

I was a PeTA member for several years until just a few years ago. Although I agree with campaigning, letter-writing & other actions to inform ppl & change policies, I eventually realized the shock tactics were turning ppl away from serious issues & AR activists were getting stereotyped as kinda nuts. Also, while I was onboard with their "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" campaign @ 1st, their endless parade of barely-dressed women offended me after awhile-- it seems wrong to objectify women in the name of AR-- a vegetarian female shouldn't be ok with being presented as "meat."
Another factor is that PeTA's promotion of a vegan lifestyle is admirable, but on 1 hand they were making me feel like a criminal for occasionally using dairy & @ the same time encouraging ppl to thank McDonald's for making life marginally less gruesome for some of their "food" animals.
Finally, I keep hearing that PeTA would like to do away with the idea of humans having companion animals (I'm not sure how accurate this is, btw but it keeps surfacing). While I'm against "disposable" pets, puppy mills, not treating animals well & most breeding, I see nothing wrong in sharing my life with other species & the various creatures I live with seem happy & a bit spoiled. Most of our animals are rescues & they have to live *somewhere* & not everybody wants a "used pet" who possibly has behavioral/emotional issues from prior abuse.
If I ever decide to support PeTA in the future, it will be after having these issues addressed. Meanwhile, there are many other organizations, including Friends of Animals, that can use our support.

I've heard some pretty bad stuff about them. It's not that they lie about things it is the way they go about the things they see as bad. I guess you can say they are "radical" vegans because they take justice into their own hands with businesses and companies that harm animals since nobody helps them when they ask for help. I mean if a company was making profits from a meat in which the animal was killed alive wouldn't you be angry? I think they just want justice since rules and laws towards animals arent followed by slaughter houses. I mean i dont agree with everything PETA does but i do understand why those actions.

Yes it is!! I am one of those vegetarians!!

They try an make animal cruelty out to be something that's everywhere and across the board, but its not. I am sick of them doing this too.

Look at Kobe beef for an example, them cows eat better then most humans and they treat them cows like their gods. They play classical music for them cows and give them massages. Peta though, they'll tell you all cows raised for food are beaten or pumped full of hormones.

I am sorry but I just don't see how playing classical music to animals and giving them massages equates to animal cruelty or even pumping them full of hormones.

Peta really takes things to extremes and is very deceptive in what they preach.

Ok, every organisation have a main issue or objective that they deal with. If you do not agree with what they are doing, simple, don't join. It's always difficult to find an organisation that really fits what you believe in. So if there are certain things that opposes your beliefs, you don't have to support it. I still support PETA though.

PETA is a ridiculous organization. They use shock tactics and lies to get their point across.

Also, I read an article once about one of the PETA leaders who is diabetic and while PETA doesn't support the use of insulin, she uses it. Her reason was something like 'animals need me to live to fight for them.' disgusting, disgusting hypocrisy. I'll try to find the link and post it to make sure I'm remembering it right.

I'm been veg for a long time, but I don't really trust PETA. They try to be on top of everything concerning the ethical treatment of animals, and sometimes things they say aren't true or they don't have enough information to back it up.

I've heard a lot of bad things, too.. but I'm not sure what to believe sometimes.
