1) A box of your favorite cookies from childhood.
(e.g. homemade Rice Crispies treats or Toll House cookies, Oreos, animal crackers)
2) Regional candy. From the SF Bay Area that would be See's Candy, Ghiradelli or Scharfen Berger Chocolate. Maple sugar candy from the East Coast. Pecan Pralines from the South. Tasty Kake from Philly.
3) Any regional savory snacks like a local brand of potato chips or flavored popcorn.
4) Interesting convenience foods or condiments like Rice-A-Roni, Manwich sauce, Tabasco or Welch's Grape Jelly & Jiff peanut butter. Make notes in Italian clarifying directions for preparation or a description of the item & how to use it. (e.g. spicy, sweet - to add flavor or as a spread, etc.)
Other items she might like would be some cute accessories or beauty items from Old Navy, The Gap or Victoria's Secret.
A book w/ pictures about U.S. regional foods, cooking styles, famous brands, etc.
Photos of your hometown & some notes about what those places mean to you & how they compare to what you saw in Italy. (e.g. A suburban cineplex or Starbuck's cafe vs. an Italian movie theater or small cafe, smoking restrictions, ice cream vs. gelato)

That's kind of a hard one. I'm Italian and the last time I was in Italy was about 10 years ago...and I remember that they had pretty much everything I have had in the U.S. Maybe you could try sending her some things that are more of a specialty where you live in the U.S...or even just things that you really enjoy eating now and as you were growing up.

I think your question is very funny becouse i am italian and just yesterday i was asking myself what does american are usually to eat!
I think a perfect gift would be some souces of yours becouse italians really loves sauces and we are not costumer to 'strange' mixture of yours with cheese and vegetable for example!
I think is a funny notice that everyone suggst you to send sweets and candy as if this would be a meal! But i think that is also pretty good (and yummy)
Have you got some amazing and original food like our spaghetti or chines vermicelli? I think the only american food we know in italy are the one mentioned in the movie, like murshamllow (those that you have to cook) burger filler souces, scout cookies, and those unknowed named things you're usually have for breackfast made up whit flour and fried, with acer sirup
:)
bye
i would also say you we alredy have
popcorn, flavoured chips, m&m's, kit kats, gubbmy bears and other stuff like lion, mars, bounty, sniker and so on
but i never heard about jelly belly, PB or orange flavored cramberries
:)

Oreo Cookies
Betty Crocker Choc chip cookie mix(not so much of that stuff over here) or the brownies
I would send stuff like that..Donuts are good too but if they would be fresh when they got there I do not know..(The good kind like from Dunkin Doughnuts or whatever fresh..

Truly American foods: dont try to even compare any of our foods to the Italian equivalent...
Here are some suggestions: mini pecan pie, m&m's or kit kats, chocolate chips cookies, jelly bellys, a small jar of PB, orange flavored cranberries...
hard to think of things that will travel well aslo!

you may deliver any dry products to Italy. airlines are in many situations basically picky with products that incorporate beverages extra suitable than 3 oz. Any of those products could be high-quality. Have a advantageous holiday.
