All dogs have potential to bite.
I suggest that you go to a shelter and find a dog that fits your family well. Many are young adults dogs so you will be able to see it's size and temperament right away.
I think wanting a dog OR a fish tank is an odd combo. You can't compare the two and you can have both if you'd like. I have a dog, cat and a beautiful planted fish tank. They all take work and time to keep their environment clean.

start pet ownership off small like a fish and work your way up. Get an education in the mean time on general dog behavior, health, training methods so you will have some knowledge. If you have a specific breed in mind at that time, then educate yourself on THAT breed. Not all dogs are the same, they each are predisposed to certain health issues as well as behavior. And get yourself a BREED friendly vet ,not one who treats all dogs the same.

Dogs don't bite unless they've been undersocialized or abused. Do your research on any breed before getting one. Even if you adopt a mix from a shelter, do research on what breeds he's a mix of. Good luck and happy researching :)

A six pack daily will help you with studies of dogs, their behavior, care and training. Get books!!!!
In 6 month time you may be ready for a dog/ pup and only rarely ask stupid questions on Yahoo.

if you have time and lots of patience and love, poodles, yorkies, chi.terriers are all small. check out your local humane society and the daily paper to see if there are any available. make sure you are ready a dog as they need lots of care, shots and attention and check where you live for any rules. good luck.
