Fish contains half the amount of cholesterol of meat but is good cholesterol so it's good for the heart.
The best fish is the wild one and the very best is blue fish like mackrel, sardines, herrings, kippers, pilchards, salmon, swordfish either fresh or tinned though fresh is tastier.
Small fish are better than big fish such as like tuna as the latter ones can contain unusual amounts of mercury. Canned tuna though it has proteins has no omega 3 oil because it's extracted during the processing and you shouldn't eat far too much of it because of mercury though in small amounts is OK
Farmed fish is not as good as wild fish and shellfish is good but some people are allergic to it.
Squids and octopus have no fat in them and hardly any cholesterol at all.
Esquimos who eat nothing but fish in their traditional diet never suffer from heart problems, but some modern Esquimos who have switched to western diet have the same heart problems as modern Western people.

A little learning can be a dangerous thing.
A serving of tuna has 25mg of cholesterol.
A small serving of lean beef contains over 95mg of cholesterol. If it is broiled or roasted with no extra fat.
A cheeseburger and fries from a fast food place will have more than 500mg of cholesterol.
We all need a little cholesterol... out own bodies will make it if we do not eat enough.
My husband is on a low fat-low salt eating regimen to lower his blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides.
We eat beef/ pork/ham less than once a week.
We eat several fish and chicken meals per week. (Shell fish are very low in fat and very high in cholesterol. Shrimp is a favorite... we limit now to every other week.... never fried.)
We do eat eggs, however, we usually limit eggs to 4 per week.
We also have, at least, one meatless day per week. On those days I prepare beans/bean soup or whole wheat pasta with low fat cheese.
We eat 8 to 12 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
We limit fast foods to once a year!
I have had to do extensive research and consult with a nutritionist to come up with a health eating plan. And eating is only part of the equation for an health heart. The other half of the equation is exercise. We swim, walk, dance and/or do physical work for over an hour every day.
So it you are worried or concerned about your heart I can tell you that a little learning is a dangerous thing.
First see you doctor and get a blood test to find out your Cholestrol levels.... There are 3 different scores... you also need to know your fasting triglyeride level.
What is your Body Mass Index are you over weight??
Depending upon your age and these scores you may need additional tests.

Fish, especially cold water fish contain Omega 3 which studies have show to benefit heart health.
As in all things, balance is needed., so dont start gobbling cans of tuna....but 2 or 3 servings of Salmon, preferably wild Alaskan variety which are richer in Omega 3.
Fish oil capsules are also an option, but checkwith your doctor.

cholestrol is not actually that bad for you and it doesn't raise your own bad cholestrol levels. fish is extremely good for you..because it contains healthy fat which is needed for proper brain function (it can help with depression, bipolar, add etc..) tissue repair and protection, healthy skin and organs and so much more. tuna isn't the greatest..especially canned..it may contain mercury and other toxic chemicals....it is best to look for quality when it comes to ALL food. always go organic or in this case look for fish who's levels of possible toxins it contains is very low.

Supposedly, fish is good but not oily fish like tuna or salmon. I just think you have a trade-off between the good benefits and the bad ones like mercury that has come from pollution of the oceans.

Salmon is the best.....Fish is low in fat, and most foods contain cholesterol so I would not worry about that. The omega 3 oils is what is best for you in Fish.

Salmon is excellent for the heart. It has Omega-3, a mineral that is said to help strengthen your heart health. I would stick with fresh fish rather than canned. There are fewer additives.

Eat other types of fish instead of just tuna and you will be fine.
Then again you should really ditch the fish for a nice big steak!!

The type of fish matters. Consider, fish has little or no fat and can be baked rather than fried. My doctor swears it's healthier than anything.
