I would prefer something classically 1950's, but still easy to prepare. Best would be something I could prepare the day before, so it also has to travel well. Thanks!

Here's a recipe for a classic hors d'oeuvre that dates way back...

Smoked Salmon Mousse with Caviar
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Serves: more than 10

1 lb smoked salmon
1 cup cream
2T cream cheese

Using a blender, blend smoked salmon, cream and cream cheese until evenly smooth. Serve with cucumber slices and caviar.

If you want to get fancy, you could pipe the mousse onto the cucumber with a pastry bag or a plastic freezer bag.

The mousse would be fine to make the day before, but it would be best to pipe it on the day of the party. The cucumber can be sliced the day before-try to store so the cucumber maintains its shape (so the flesh is not exposed to air) in a plastic container. This will help keep the cucumber from getting slimey.

Hope this helps.

http://www.foodtimeline.org/fooddecades.html#1950s

Click on the above link. When you get to that web page go to the top of the page and then click on the 1950's section. When you get to the 1950's section scroll down the page a little and you will see a whole list of 1950's appetizers. Have a great time at the party, it sounds like it should be fun.

Deviled eggs they are a classic! There is always a cheese log (ball) with crackers, mini wienies wrapped in bacon with mustard dipping sauce, Pineapples wrapped in bacon (Hawaii had just become the 50th state so pineapples were pretty popular), the ever classic salmon loaf or chicken liver pate. Hope this helps, you can find recipes for all of these at Recipezarr.com or AllRecipes.com. Good Luck!

Ritz crackers and cheese...been around for a long time...put a little olive on a tooth pick stuck in cheese. That's about all we had in the 50's....lol....unless you were rich...then is was caviar on a cracker.
