As you can see, there are probably as many ways to transition as there are vegans! I went vegan a few months after I went veg, and I really don't remember the exact day I did it. I just realized one day that veganism was what's right for me. Next thing I knew, I stopped eating foods with dairy, eggs, and honey (to name a few).
So you have to decide which method works best: going cold tofu or gradually phasing out nonvegan items with vegan items as you use them up.

I just made the decision one day and didn't look back. You may need to put more effort into cooking things yourself rather than buying processed foods but your body will thank you for this because they are generally unhealthy anyway. For baking you can get things like egg replacer and instead of cows milk you could have soy, almond or rice milk. The first couple of weeks may be hard but just think of the reasons why you're going vegan whenever you get tempted to help you through it. There's an alternative to everything nowadays so you won't be totally giving up anything. After the initial transition it's not hard at all. Good Luck!

Get a couple of good vegan cookbooks and go to town trying fabulous new recipes. I went from lacto-ovo to vegan a couple months ago and I haven't missed cheese at all (which was my fear.) "Vegan with a Vengeance" is really good and the author (Isa Chandra Moskowitz) has a new cookbook out called "Veganomicon" which I got the other day and haven't tried yet. I also recommend "Becoming Vegan" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina for good coverage of vegan nutrition. For me it was only a transition in the sense that I thought about if for a couple months before I set a drop-dead date and just cut out the eggs and dairy.

The best transition for me was to just take a little out at a time. First I cut out straight eggs. No scrambled eggs, no egg sandwiches. Then I cut out straight milk and drank Soy Milk instead. Then I cut out honey (which was extremely easy). Next, I cut out any wool, fur, leather, ect. Finally, I made the full transition. No animals products, period. This way is the easiest, I think, because it's easier to stop eating one thing than a whole group of things. Hope I helped!

For me, It just happened. I think I was realizing how nonsensical I was by being l/o vegetarian for animal welfare. I think if I'd tried to go vegan anytime before the time i actually did It wouldn't have worked. I just wasn't in the right place or something.
There are vegan message boards online where you can talk to a whole bunch of vegans and get all sorts of information and varying opinions on things (we all have them). I suggest joining one of those. I think the one I frequented made a lot of things click in my head.

same here. i was a vegetarian for 7 years. tried several times going vegan. never worked until recently. my boyfriend and i did weeks and weeks of researching info about being vegan and how to cook all our own food. but we have succeeded and I'm never going back! SO my advise is to do your homework! GOOD LUCK!!!!! the minute you stop eating dairy the sooner you are to saving many lives!
and make sure you take vegetarian vitamins, i get mine from GNC, they are vegan.

Vegans do not eat anything that had a mother or a face. No meat, no fish, nothing with gelatin in it. Do a search with yahoo to learn more about vegan diets and combining the right vegetables to complete the amino acid chain to make complete proteins.

well my cousin is just a newbie vegetarian so i knida know a little about this stuff. maybe u could give up the things that u eat now but cant eat as a vegan, little by little. take it slow. who knows it might work for u!! = )

take it slow, switching one product at a time. try out different vegan products until you find a suitable substitute.
