There are all sorts of salt substitutes, but most, if not all, still contain sodium, which is the typical component trying to be limited in some diets.

I find a blend of garlic powder, onion powder and dill weed makes for a nice flavor accent.

One item sometimes used as a substitute, MSG (mono sodium glutamate) is not very good for you and should be avoided.

They have some salt substitutes, one I think is potassium chloride. The real question is, WHY do they put so much freakin salt in some products. I bought a small can of beans the other day that had 2220 mg of salt or one day's need.

Of course they said the can contained three servings. Servings for who? A 25 pound person?

Total calories in the can was like 400 calories or about 1/5 of a man's needs. So if you got all your calories from this or similar products you would ingest 5 x 2220 mg or 11,000mg of salt.

It would surely enhance the sales of high blood pressure meds. Thanks goodness they put our health above the bottom line....yeah, right....

Are Americans really obese or just bloated with water retention?????????

There are salt substitutes. I personally don't care for them, they are a bitter flavored bad substitute. I don't use much salt anyway so I use more spices that are out there, garlic, onion powder, herbs, etc. Much more flavorful and healthy.
