And think of the fuel they also burn while doing it???

Don't you wish you had all that money they are throwing away by not recycling???

I'm glad I don't hold walmart stock.
Money to burn.

Well I'm not a recycling company or I would take the boxes and do you know how many stores they have.

Sources
Maysville KY Walmart
Whoever set up their store made a mistake they burn the boxes next to where that walmarts air intake is so as you come into or leave the store you have a strong burning oder.
I asked the workers and they told me that the burning is too close to the intake.

So I guess in a way I am the source, unless you want to make a trip to Maysville Ky and investigate.

If one is doing it I'd be willing to bet they all are.
Shame on Mary Kate and Ashley.
Just kidding the girls probably don't even know about it.

You could probably find out by going around behind your walmart and getting the personal experience on a truck day.

Ahh I do feel slightly better knowing that at least some walmart stores are crushing instead of burning.
Because that would be alot of wasted trees if they all burned.

I hope you're right and walmart don't hide it.

Sorry leakthomas
I almost choked to death on the smoke from that walmart today.
It's always been nasty and I always had a bad taste of the burning cardboard when they were burning after shopping there.
But today I almost blacked out from the smoke and had to pull over twice with coughing fits that again almost caused me to black out.
I was real lucky I had brought my rescue inhalers if not I don't think I'd have made it home again.
My lungs were having a very hard time getting any air at all.
Somthing needs to be done about the waste and the health risks.

Maybe they do that in Maysville KY, but it would be illegal in Los Angeles, CA.

The Wal Mart here recycles boxes, plastic, aluminum and paper used in the facility. The pop cans and plastic bottles from the employee break room are recycled. The empty stock bottles from the Pharmacy are recycled. AND the boxes are recycled. The boxes have ALWAYS been recycled.

Thats sad to hear that something so big in product can be recycled but is instead being burned. However I'm sure there's many companies that can recycle that don't. I also hate how a coffee shop will throw out its day old bagels and donuts but can instead be giving them to homeless people. I think companies are the biggest wasters and that they should be "forced" to recycle. But thats just my opinion.

Yes just about every business I have worked for was incredibly wasteful. I used to work for Benihana's and they make 30-40% profit off of sales more than 4X whats normal. They didnt bother to waste one cent recycling. So long as its cheaper to throw things away then to recycle them profit minded companies will have no incentive to recycle. Consumers too.

Personally I think of garbage as a government subsidized industry. Perhaps if we stopped "subsidizing" garbage and let its full cost take effect and started to drastically subsidize recycling efforts well maybe that would be a step in the right direction.

well the wal-mart by me has a crusher and they do recycle

besides how much fuel does it take to burn paper?
you make a good argument for those that do burn them but I would loose the fuel usage thing a match here and there isn't gonna make that much of a difference

Wal-Mart is becoming a monopoly. Don’t buy there.

Plus, Vice President Dick supports Wal-Mart's impact on the economy (and it isn’t a good impact!) I believe that is reason in itself why not to shop there…

I did know they burn millions of boxes yearly, though. But nice job on posting it and getting word around!

Recycling is bad for the environment, end of discussion. The only good thing to recycle is aluminum.

The case for trees: There are tree farms, if we recycle paper it uses up more energy and new trees wont be planted in their place. We use pumpkins but there isn't a shortage of them.

The simple solution is not to buy there until they reuse or recycle them

Imagine all the poor suckers that bought the crap that was in those boxes.
Walmart should be considered a disease and their demise the cure!

Why don't you take the boxes off their hands?

Any source for this claim?
