you have raised a valid point.... but i believe that MOST educated vegetarians are more focus on the economic/environment issues around not eating meat... you can raise 10 tons of corn in the same space adn time it takes to raise 2 cows... so really it is more of a frugality ( with what we have) issue.....

If someone is not eating animals cause they don't want to take a life....I would take into consideration their age, education level and how long and with what intenstiy they have been striving to be a vegetarian.....

residing creatures is totally distinct from residing issues. A being- an organism with feeling, wondering receptors, soreness receptors and the means to experience , ie/ a imperative fearful gadget, and motility, is a creature. A residing being with a soul. It has nerves and sophisticated purposes in this is mind it is stressed out to imagine and create self sustaining ideas. A plant in effortless terms reacts to stimuli. It lives by way of biology interior the chlorophyl, water and gentle reactions round it. IT would not react on this is own, neither is it motile. as well, to eat leaves and a stem from a plant does no longer kill it. pass study Larry the Goat now, destroy time is pretty a lot right here.

Plants are very different than animals.

#1 Plants have no brain or central nervous system.. Therfore they cannot think, feel, experience pain or emotions

#2 Animals DO hve brains and CNS and therfore CAN think, feel, experience pain and emotions

#3 To make a pound of beef, it took ALOT more plants than the pound of plants a vegetarian might eat directly.. Therefore Meat eaters are "kililig" more plants than vegetarians.. not to mention the fact that meat eaters also eat salads, potatoes, bread, etc..

I am pretty sure people these days dont eat meat b/c it can be potentially bad for you in the long run. Most people who live long and healthy talk about how they dont eat red meat.

A plant is a living thing, but it is also not slaughtered in a horrific inhumane manner.

Some of the videos i have seen of slaughter houses would make anyone turn into a vegetarian.

I'm a vegetarian mostly for health reasons, but I can help you out.

First, people don't become vegetarians to stop eating living things, the vegetarians for animal rights reasons become vegetarians to stop suffering. Animals and plants are both living, and we can survive on either... however, we can not survive on non-living things (i.e. dirt and rocks). But it is important to note that animals and plants are not living in the same way. An animal is alive in the way we are alive. It is sentient, feels emotion, can think, and does not want to die. The only difference that sepatates us is how efficiently our brains are wired compared to theirs. If a cow could talk to you would you really want to eat it?

Now plants are also alive, but plants are alive in the way that your toenails are alive. They grow and can react to chemical stimuli, but do not do these things because they want to, they just do. Plants have no cerebral cortex and therefore have no capacity for thought, pain, fear, or suffering. This makes plant based diets a much better option for those seeking to end suffering.

If you don't know why people become vegetarians to end suffering, then I highly recommend you watch the film "Earthlings" (dvd) or stream the short film "Meet Your Meat" from the web.

Hope this helps you out.

Well, you have to eat something. A vegetarian would much rather eat something that is picked from the natural Earth rather that something that can get up and move. And have you ever hear of a pet plant before? If there were such a thing, would Vick go to prison for drowning plants?

Well, unless you want to go the anorexic route, there's just no way to live on air, vitamins, and water. I think most vegetarians have qualms about the way animals are treated before they reach the grocery store... and how much of the animal is wasted. One vegetarian friend of mine said she would have no probem eating meat if she were able to hunt it herself, and make sure every part of the animal was used.

I also have some buddhist friends who are primarily vegetarian because they feel it violates the first rule "Do No Harm." However, they will eat meat if invited to someone's home for dinner and meat is being served. The rationale there is the animal is already dead and has been prepared to consume, it would do more harm to reject the hospitality of well-meaning people, than to consume the meal.

And yes, plants are alive, but they don't bleed.

Plants don't have a nervous system, so they can't feel the pain or get hurt.
Many plants still live their full life and u just harvest the fruit (tomatoes, bean, capsicum...many many more). And u do feed them and protect them from pests in return.
Plants r not slaughtered to be eaten.

my reason for being vegetarian is that all animals have as much right to live as i have. its a bit unfair if an animal has to die every time i feel hungry.

While I am not a vegetarian, one of the main reasons my friends who are have cited have to do with the mass cruelty done to animals in the raising and processing of the animals. They are generally kept in confined spaces and are subjected to unbelievable cruelties. It is not just that they are living.. it is the way the animals are treated. If you treated plants the way they do animals prior to "harvesting" they would be long dead.
Doing a search for vegetarian to stop animal cruelty, you will find many many more websites that go into the atrocities committed on animals in the name of profit.

different kingdom.... I don't eat animals. plants aren't animals... If I didn't eat living things... I'd wouldn't be able to swallow for the little bacteria in my mouth would surely get digested... That would mean no source of getting water except through an IV bag or I'd be dead in a few days.

Yes, plants are alive, but most people do not believe they are capable of feeling pain. They don't have brains or blood; it's a somewhat different form of life from animals. I know you are not trying to be mean. People who don't want to eat animals realize that plants are alive, but so are viruses and bacteria, but most will not have a problem with killing those with medication to cure an illness.
