I love sushi. I tried it a few years ago at an authentic Japanese
restaurant.
Some say that it is an acquired taste but I believe that you have to have an open mind when trying ethnic dishes.
I have always allowed myself to try new foods. I have never really been disappointed.
Sushi has to be one of my favorite foods. Unfortunately, my husband is not too keen. My friends go out for it on occasion.

I love sushi!! My husband also loves it which is a surprise to me as he has always been such a "meat and potatoes" type person. Like the asker said, sushi is just not raw fish. I do not even care for raw fish or fish in sushi in general, but I still find a good selection of rolls that I love that are made from crab, shrimp, crawfish, lobster, etc. The rolls that are fried tempura style are the bomb!! They are so good. One is a california roll that is fried tempura style with special sauce and you cannot beat it. I also like spicy crawfish rolls, regular california rolls, louisianna rolls which have crab and shrimp and are blackened with a spicy seasoning. If you are going to try sushi for the first time, try it at a quality sushi restaurant, not at some cheap chinese buffet. You want to try top quality as they prepare it with the freshest ingredients and they also do not have that seaweed taste. They toast the seaweed wrapper so it is crunchy and not yucky and chewy. Vegetarians also can have a great choice of sushi too as they make an awesome selection of vegetable rolls out there. Sushi has gotten a bad rap by some as they only think of it as raw fish and have not tried it except at a chinese buffet where the quality is severely lacking. Also, when you eat it, dip it in your mixture of soy sauce wasabi tray. You just put a bit of soy in the tray the restaurant gives you and add a small dab of wababi to it and mix it together...start very small as a little wasabi goes a long way as its extremely hot and spicy. You have to mix a little tiny bit at a time to get your taste level and then dip away. Sushi can be eaten with your hands and do not try to take small tiny bites as you will tear up the piece and its a disaster. Dip it and put the whole bite in your mouth. You will be pleasantly surprised.`

I prefer Sashimi, just sliced raw fish without the rice. Sushi is good too, and I really like Maguro (Tuna) Sake (Salmon) and Toro (fatty tuna), as well as many others. Always with soy sauce for dipping. I'm not a big fan of rolls, but if that's all that's available, I still prefer tuna and salmon, without vegetables. Though, Philadelphia roll is good (Salmon, avocodo and cream cheese).
Great, now I'm craving some good Sashimi! Too bad I live in Iowa...

Sushi rocks!! Ignorant people think that all sushi are made with raw fish. Besides, raw fish in sushi it is also great, especially salmon, tuna and octopuss with soy sauce and wasabi.

The thought about it actually kinda grossed me out. Until someone persuaded me to try one and realized that they were fantastic!
Another dish that totally repulsed me was a Korean side called "Kimchi" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimchi . It's smells awful and the idea of "fermented cabbage" was none too appealing.
Until someone dared me to try it. Oh my, my. It is actually delicious! A bit on the spicy side, but goes to show you never know what you will like 'till you try it.
