It would be extremely unusual to see a male at 40 with a BP of 115/75 or most folks for that matter. Current standards say 120/80 would be "ideal" but may not be realistic. Factors such as family history, weight and smoking all must be taken into consideration and it is generally considered that it must be closely evaluated on a case by case basis. I seriously doubt if Miss RN is anywhere close to being an RN.

Get over your doctor problem. There are low income clinics in your county and these you pay on a sliding fee or no fee basis. Please understand that in this age of 2010, it is unreasonable not to have a physical once a year. You need a physician to follow you from time to time. Now you didn't say if your an overweight couch potato, but even then 124 resting heart rate is higher than it should be. I take a medication for this and it's taken care of. Take a leap of faith and see a doc. Get a doc and start having him look at your stats as the years progress. Then you will be intelligent having the doc look under your hood like a mechanic, he can say well your needing a tune up here or there. Get it! You at least need to place your self in as high regard as your beloved automobile.

Ok, 120/80 is a normal blood pressure. A systolic(top number) at 140 or higher is borderline hypertensive..this ranks watching it a bit more closely. At 160 or higher consistantly..you need to be treated(keep it too high for too long and you have a stroke). At 180 or higher..go to ER, get it treated and DO follow up with your family doc as ordered. Now, the diastolic(bottum number) will be hypertensive over 90. See your doc. Over 100 is another trip to the ER. They will treat you with any number of drugs(beta blockers, vesodialators..etc.) and a good number of them are on Walmart's $4.00 list now. Ask when you go in if the doc will pull form that...they will. If you are just monitoring for borderline..learn your symptoms to watch. Throbbing temples, headache, flushed face..etc. Pay attention to how you feel when it's up. This may be the only warning you get before a stroke. Good luck to you..hope this helps.
PS..actually an RN

120/80 is always the normal blood pressure for an adult... but there is a range. Especially if you are on any medications.

Hi,
Depending on other factors, such as your weight and lifestyle and any other medical conditions, a certain range of BP's would be acceptable.
110/70 to 120/80 is not cause for alarm. Keep in mind that ONE elevated BP does not make a diagnosis. It is made with several consecutive BP's that are over 130/88. 140/90 is considered high BP now but may be tolerated in patients with known cardiac conditions and who are on medication..
Borderline high BP is generally treated with lifestyle changes (decrease salt, increase the exercise!) and then medication is considered.
Basically, like anything in medicine it is dependent on the individual person for diagnosis and treatment. If you are that concerned about it please talk to your health care provider.

systolic bp ideally should be under 140
diastolic bp should be under 90
110/70 to 140/90 is fine if your bp is consistantly over 140/90 then your doc would usually start treatment
