I am holding a charity dinner and will be feeding somewhere between 75-150 people. The menu will be vegan/vegetarian, so I should be able to save some money as the cost of meat is usually th highest food cost. I will be serving a salad, a couple appetizers and two or three main dishes, followed by a lite dessert (maybe even fruit salad or something). I will be doing most of the prep, etc. out of my home. If anyone could give me a ballpark estimate I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I am catering an event for between 75-150 people. I will be buying all the food myself and making it all myself. The menu will be vegan/vegetarian. Can anyone, preferably a caterer, give me an idea about how much I will spend? There will be a salad, a few appetizers and a couple of entrees. Items will mostly be veggies, fruits and pasta. When I first posted tis question people included in the price labor, dj's, a venue, etc. All of this is taken care of. I want to know only what I can expect to spend on the physical foodstuffs themselves. Also, about how much food will i need for this amount of people?

It really depends on exactly what you're serving. If I were you, I'd buy the food and hire a few high schoolers (whom you explain exactly what you'd like done) to plate, serve, refill and clean up for the evening. (Personally, I charge $30/hour for this, but you could offer them $10 and they'd be grateful.) I would guess that your (ballpark) estimate for food only would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $600-700 for what you described, if you buy and prepare the food yourself. Serve bread....this stretches your menu without adding much to the overhead. What are you doing for beverages?

Catering Prices For 100 People

Most caterers charge between $15-25 per person for a simple catered meal in our town so you probably would make a profit charging that. See what some other caterers are charging. Some of your costs are for items that will be used multiple times so the first job will be the most expensive.

If you know the menu (will you serve wine too?) then you should be able to figure the costs.
Additional costs:
Do you have to rent a place?
Will you have to transport the food?
Will you be able to assemble your food at the place?
Will you have to pay for help?
Do you need permits to serve food?
Will you need a PA system?
Music? You may need a permit for this too.
Insurance?

very hard to answer..

you need to add up the estimated cost of ingredients of all dishes and divide by the number of people

don't forget to share cost of some between dishes (eg, oil could be used in 5 dishes)

do you want to be paid for labor? add that too
