Since she had Bypass surgery and has diabetes, there are two distinct possibilities. One is that she is beginning to get some degree of diabetic neuropathy, in which nerve cells are being damaged from diabetic disease... OR two, they harvested her left Radial Artery as the donor graft used in her Bypass procedure and the remaining Ulnar Artery is not up to the task in blood flow volume to the left hand, resulting in numbness. Do the fingertips in her left hand look blue or feel cold all the time?
Since neuropathy is a slow insidious process, she should have had some warning symptoms of it already. For the numbness to come so closely after the surgery, I'm inclined to believe that it was probably related to the bypass.

It's on and off one her, she had by-pass surgery already and on insulin - she is scared but don't trust the doctors because of so many mistakes and ommission on her record - she changed doctors because of that - could she be in danger right now? She has an elevated cholesterol too - but not...

(Just so you know, I have no medical expertise what-so-ever) My grandmother has diabetis and she was having some numbing in a few of her toes but she ignored it, figuring that it was nothing. However, she ended up having to go to the doctor's office when it persisted. By the time she went she had to have her foot amputated and then her whole leg. Now she did end up w/ sum discoloration before we made her go to the doctor's office and the numbing had spread to her whole foot as well so this 50 year old female may not be in trouble but please pay attention to it and if it gets any worse, have her see a professional because I'd hate for that to happen to someone else if it could be prevented. Good luck!

The numbness sounds like circulation problem. She should be seeing a doctor regularly especially being a diabetic. Work on getting and keeping the cholesterol below 200. The rest are fine. What is her blood pressure, she should be taking a Beta-Blocker if she has already had the by-pass, it something needs to take everyday for like. Blood clots can also restrict the blood flow, so its important she get checked as soon as possible.

If you don't trust your doctor, then find another doctor, and soon! Ask friends, neighbors, coworkers for reccommendations. Usually numbness shows up in your feet first from diabetes, but I certainly would not rule out that as a cause. I would also wonder about this occuring after the surgery.
Get to a Doctor!!

time to get with a serious program. aspirin ain't gonna get it. i am diabetic and have taken several years to break through my denial. just had a stroke and had a four-way bypass two years ago. nueropathy etc. etc. main problem all the time is that i have had this powerful ability to tune everybody out and i love to eat and have some beer. to make it short, until she is a true believer -- she is in great jeopardy of dying. should she be alarmed? yes. do or die.

One possible cause is diabetic neuropathy. This really is something that should be discussed with a doctor. Yahoo Answers is a lousy place to get medical advice.
