most of the time I read on here that atheist believe there is no God, based on their common sense and they say that they educated themselves...do you not know that ALOT of scholars believe there is really good evidence that there is a God! They have P.H. D.'s and have studied alot of historical documents, secular and biblical, that give great evidence that the Bible is accurate in it's accounts, therefore what it says is true. Which it states many times that there is a God.
Look up these Scholars:
Craig L. Blomberg, PH.D.
Bruce M Metzger, PH.D.
Edwin M. Yamauchi, PH.D.
John Mcray, PH.D.
Gregory A. Boyd, PH.D.
Ben Witherington III, PH.D.
Some like Lee Strobel (not listed above) started out atheist and started studying historical documents and became Christian after they studied, because of the overwhelming Truth. Lee Strobel got his degree at Yale Law School.

Levia-LOL, you are putting words in my mouth that aren't even there. Mentally ill people get phd's whether they are biblical or secular. you can't argue with that. and when you rambled about the japanese, you know, I worship a God of love and peace. Satan is the god of this world, the liar and deciever, you choose to worship.

YY4me-yeah, I actually heard of that book. I did read parts of the book and found that Doherty was merely stating his opinions in the book, where as Lee was talking to historical scholars from all over. Doherty also says that Historical Biblical Scholars have rejected a historical Jesus. Plain and simple that is not true! His book is filled with lies if you are asking me. You should read the books before you start talking like your an expert in something...

Paul S.- In response to your second post. There is astounding evidence that Jesus did as the gospels claim. In Stobels book it explains. With that book you can't just write part of it on a website and believe that people will believe your evidence. You need to read the whole book for it to make sense. He starts off each chapter with an example of a true crime, then goes on to interview a scholar which his questions ties into the crime he just stated, make sense? I know, I did a poor job of explaining, just borrow the book from the library and read it;)

I hear a lot of atheists say, "Oh, God." Why do they do that instead of saying, "Oh nothing." It's okay though, because on that great and dreadful day when every knee shall bow, including those atheists knees, they will be saying, "Oh...God, we should have listened." I can only pray for those who have not accepted God.
God bless you all.

First you load a question regarding atheism and how they believe in no God then divert the question that fits your subjective understanding of God and only expect one answer. Second, you hand picked the scholars who specifically believe in your God and fail to make a convincing argument toward the correlation of PH.D's and people of other faith. Third, you use straw man rhetoric to conclude your paragraph stating that a certain atheist scholar turned christian because of overwhelming Truth, yet fail to tell your readers that their truth is based on their faith. This is nothing more than an attempt to convince atheists to believe in what you believe and there is no real question in your paragraph.

You seem mighty impressed by Ph.D.s.
I've got one, as well as an M.A. and an M.S. I'm an atheist.

Don't be so impressed by credentials. If these scholars were right, wouldn't you think they'd be able to make a good case for the existence of gods? Instead, we get this kind of thing:

http://www.leestrobel.com/
==============================
"Paul S.- they did, have you read "The case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. You should read it and let me know what you think."

If he had a good case to make, I'd know it already. I've been to his website, as you should have noticed. If he had a good case to make for the existence of gods, why is he keeping it hidden? Why doesn't he make his case there on the website? He's just being dishonest, obviously, for the purpose of selling books.

Take an step back and look at that website yourself. If I had evidence that a god existed, it'd be all over my website - you wouldn't be able to miss it. But Strobel's website doesn't present evidence at all - instead, there's tons of stuff to buy. It's utterly obvious that he is simply trying to take your money.

Now Google the other names on your list. I just did. Unlike Strobel, they seem like decent people - Boyd in particular - and devoted scholars, and I'm sure they're quite bright. But in your search you won't find them presenting ANY evidence for the existence of a god. Again, if they had any, it'd be right out in front. It isn't.

I've made the effort here. I earned the Ph.D., I've examined the evidence, and I even spent the time to check up on the list of names that you presented. Now it's your turn. If you look at the situation in a fair-minded way, you'll find that there's no evidence whatsoever for the existence of a god.

And Albert Einstein and Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking are/were atheists. What's your point? Intelligence is irrelevant in the "God or no God" argument. Either He exists or he doesn't. If the atheists outnumber the theists, they don't "win", and God won't suddenly blink out of existence like an extinguished candle.

Mentally ill people can get doctorates.

Scientifically literate people just aren't impressed with arguments from authority so it wouldn't matter how eminent these people were, would it? Doesn't make what they say necessarily so.

Having said that - I've never heard of any of them.

You know some members of the heaven's gate cult in japan are doctorates - they helped make nerve gas for the tokyo subway attack. I guess since they were educated they were doing the right thing, yes?

There are many educated people on both sides of the fence. It has nothing to do with intelligence. Believing in God is a matter of the heart. Once the heart becomes hard, it will no longer seek God.

"...ALOT of scholars believe there is really good evidence that there is a God!"

Well, then, perhaps they should share this "really good evidence" with the rest of us because I certainly haven't seen any.

I'm not familiar with most of the names on your list, but I am familiar with Lee Strobel. Here's a site that debunks his books:

Christian scholars believe in the Christian God. Astounding.

Just because someone believes something dose not make it true. If there is such "evidence" for the existence of a god, please post it.

We won't believe in God because a bunch of scholars say he's real. Unlike the religious, we think for ourselves.
