i wasn't always an atheist.
i used to believe in god-- i asked for help. i truely believed. i prayed.
so why didn't he help me then?

please don't answer with something along the lines of "the lord works in mysterious ways" or "we can't always explain the choices of god, but everything he does is for good".
if you don't have an answer for me, don't answer.

Hi Crazeh Lil Rachel!
This is the exact situation I am in. I prayed with my soul for help from god, and my prayers went unanswered.
This is why I became an Atheist
I doubt you will get a descent answer to this question

Whether or not you get answers to prayer depends on what it is you believe about God. A lot of people who say they believe in God have actually rejected him. They only want a God that does things their way. I'm sorry for whatever terrible thing happened to you, but if it has caused you to seek Him, then it will be worthwhile in the end.

Perhaps he did give you an answer but it wasn't the one you were seeking. Or maybe he knew you could really work out on your own the problem that you were having. Or maybe deep down you knew yourself that you could do it and just needed a little boost. God doesn't leave us......when we feel alone it is us who have left. Think about it he is our father would you leave one of your children in their darkest hour??? Would you help your children by not helping them....b/c sometimes that is the best solution to a problem. My mom did that with me when I was 19 and i am soooo glad she did. I wasn't at the time but I am not, very grateful that i was forced to stand on my own two feet.

I can't say for sure, but I would ask a question in relation to this:
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Were you seeking God and His kingdom and His righteousness, or were you seeking your own?
God will only accept someone on His terms. You may well have been sincere in your prayers, but were you truly seeking Him? Did you ever study to see what His will is for you and all mankind?

i am not sure what you mean by not getting help.....sometime the help we think we need or what looks logical...is not what God has in mind for us....
for example...a long time ago, I was in school for a certain course of study...I had a horrible time and I was mistreated and I finally quit...this has affected me ever since...and my jobs have not been that good because I never finished. Many years later, I was still wondering about it, when God spoke to my spirit and reminded me of something from my childhood that would have prevented me from ultimately doing a good job, So it was never his plan, only mine, that failed. He helped me in ways I did not understand at the time. As sad as I was, his words in the scriptures comforted me, and to this day, I am wiser in things that I would not have had time for, if i had been successful...
your situation may have been different...you are welcome to contact me and tell me more..maybe i can help if i know more.

you need to explain a little more.did you ask for a new car, a boyfriend, someone not to get sick or die? If you asked for material stuff God is not Santa clause he gives people the ability to work, if someone got sick or died that happens to everyone in this life.God will not put something upon a person that everyone else doesn't have to deal with also. God did help you in your situation you lived through it and you are probably a stronger person for it.

Unanswered prayers have always been blamed on the one doing the praying. They always say you don't have enough faith or you have something to work through first. Truth is, how can prayer be answered when no one is listening to you in the first place.

there's a song called "unanswered prayers" by garth brooks.
it talks about prayers that we think ,go unanswered, but ,in reality, truly are answered. maybe you haven't found that "open door" because you're still looking at the one that closed. i know i spent a lot of years dwelling on all of the things that went bad in my life. so much so that i missed some of the things that were truly going great all around me. sometimes we have to help ourselves. "God helps those that help themselves."
i hope you find your answer, be it here or somewhere else. :)

How long did you wait to hear the answer,or did you hear it but deny it..?
God has never left you,you walked away from Him..maybe that may sound so hard for you to hear but that is truth..So many times I have prayed and many times I hear an answer I didn't like but God sure knows what lies ahead of me and I was glad He planned it out that way.

Oy Vey, where were you when God needed you?
Life is a two lane blacktop - it goes both ways!
An old wise man once said this to me, when I was in one of my darkest hours: "Believe in God, don't pretend to believe in God, for it's the pretending that gets man into so much difficulty."
May your nights be filled with "A Most Ominous Light".
