Immunotherapy (allergy shots) has more success with environmental allergens than with food allergies. The real risk lies with the allergic reaction. That is why you will be asked to sit for a few minutes in the office after your first few injections. The risk to kidneys is the same as the risk to continually exposing yourself to the allergen...that is to say this is not risky. Immunotherapy does take some time to work, don't expect results in the first few months. Within 6 to 9 months you should see some improvement. If within 12 months you see nothing, then its not going to work for you. Unfortunately, immunotherapy doesn't work for everyone. It is important that while you are under treatment that you take whatever environmental controls that are advised by your doctor. The best way to control allergies is to conrol your exposure to the allergen. But don't worry about those shots...your kidneys are safe!

Immunotheorapy does work, but it may take more than 12 months. It has really helped me, but it took two years before I could tell the difference and five years before I got the maximum benefits. Don't quit after 12 months, if it is not helping. A lot of people don't get relief that soon. The danger is if they increase the dosage too rapidly and you have an allergic reaction to it; such as analyphyalisis. Most people only get a red, itchy bump.
It is not considered a lifetime therapy. They increase the dosage until they reach a maintenance level and hold that dosage for a couple of years. Then the shots are discontinued.

Well lets say it like this any time you take any antibotic theres a risk.
Now this the shots there putting what your allergic to in you so you can build an ammune system towards it.
I have to say its the best thing to do for yourself. and it really helps prevent thoughs season when it gets unbearble.
Good luck.
