I've had diabetes for years. I took MDIs for about 4 years before I decided to go on a pump. I've had it now for 8 years and I love it. I love everything about it...the convenience, the freedom...everything.

I use a Minimed 508 but tomorrow, I go on a Minimed 722. My old pump is just that...old. It's ready for retirement.

My control has been so much better with the pump. I feel healthier and because of better control, I have so far staved off any of the long term effects of having diabetes.

It's really a decision YOU need to make. There could be a million people on here singing praises to insulin pumps and how much better their lives are because of them. However, you need to think about how a pump will work for you. Are you willing and able to be even more vigilant about your blood sugar and your diet? Are you willing and able to make the changes that a pump will require? If so, talk to your doctor about starting the process.

Good luck to you.

Oh my gosh YES!!! Put it this way: my HbA1c was between 9 and 12% and I was on 6-10 shots a day--no control whatsoever. I got on the pump and my A1c is between 6 and 7 and I only have the one needle prick every 3 days (this does not include the 5-8 times a day doing blood tests, but I can live with that better than the shots).

You can e-mail me if you have any questions. I am on the Animas IR 1250 pump and have been pumping for about six years.

I have been a diabetic for 35 years and been on the pump for 20 of those years (got a break from all this for 2 years when transplanted but 7 rejection episodes later became a diabetic again) and I love mine! It's an indivial decision though and please talk to your Dr about it first. I love it alot more than I did taking shots everyday though.

As long as your body can tolerate it, it seems to work better and stabilizes your blood sugar better. I have a friend that used one for a while and was really pleased with it. However, now her body is having problems with it, so she has to, sadly, go back to the shots instead.

ok, so you jab yourself twice a day with the long acting insulin, then at least 3 times a day with the fast acting insulin, that is 5 times a day!! and that is minimum number of jabs.

then you do the finger pricking!! but that is gonna continue.

I would much rather do one jab every 3 to 5 days rather than 5 jabs per day!!!

quit quibbling and get on board!!! go for it!!
