LOOK AGAIN, GANG!
THIS IS !NOT! A Barrett M-82A1!
IT IS AN ADVANCED X-MODEL 25mm.

With its' experimental 25mm ammo, this might just be the #1 on the 'Hit List'. I'll bet Nancy & Billery would just have KITTENS if THIS ever came on the market! ! !

I once had a chance to fire a Lahti L-39 Anti-Tank rifle, only 20mm but impressive. It blows away anything in .50 cal.

There were a number of these Lahti's sold in the US in the 1970s. Wonder what Nancy Pelosi would think of that?

I suppose if someone wanted to redesign a gun to use the 30mm cartidge used in the General Electric GAU-8 Avenger found on the A-10 Thunderbolt that it would be the most powerful, but I am unaware of such a design.

Now, while the 25mm projectiles sound impressive, you have to look at their case capacity as well. If you look at that last picture, it does look like they a straight walled case, and aren't especially long. This allows the use of a shorter barrel while still being able to maximize velocity of their load. I doubt they'll have more muzzle energy than the .50BMG, if even that much.

Alright, if you look at this picture, you'll see that the projectile is recessed into the cartridge pretty far, not leaving a lot of room for powder: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/munitions/images/xm307-25mm.gif
It also shows some of the loads we might see used in both the XM109 and the XM307 OCSW.

Anyways, if you're looking for bigger and better eyecandy, you should check out the High-Impulse Weapons system, firing a 78 shell: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyAl9qK3Rlg&NR

25mm, just a frogs hair over 1 inch, twice the diameter of the .50 caliber.
Anything more powerful? For shoulder fired rifles, nope, thats the maximum.(So far). Given enough time, money and effort, I feel certain that they'll come out with yet another insanely large caliber rifle to surpass this 25mm monster.

This baby sounds pretty serious to me. I don't know of a rifle type of weapon that fires a larger or more powerful round that this thing does. Are you thinking of picking one up for a squirrel rifle? If you take it to the woods, watch out for falling trees.

Okay, but I don't want to lug around a 33 pound rifle!

I think I'll wait for the concealed carry version.

Not sure but this bad boy comes close. .55 caliber used in WWII for anti-tank duty, this thing must have been an absolute monster to fire!
