We took him for xrays and his doctor noticed a shaded area near the lungs that she said is probably his thymus gland, but it wasn't where it normally is. Now she has sent us to get ct scans. What might be wrong with him if it isn't asthma?

Could be as simple as a viral infection. Keep doing what his Doctor is telling him to do, the CT scan should tell him/her a lot more. Also important is the type of cough and whether it happens in the day or night.

I agree that a better diet might very well help. For a time, my husband was REFUSING to eat right, and he had a very nasty cough that wouldn't go away until he started putting weight on.

Also check for acid reflux: Sometimes that can cause a cough.

There are other things. The doctor should take a closer look at that shaded area.

Good luck!

I think your son needs a better diet. My brother went totally vegan, no dairy, no meat, no animal products and tons of fruit and vegetables. It took a little while, but his asthma is almost nill. It may take a few months, but it will work for anyone. You should do it too. It will help you wil any problems you may have. But, it is a lifestyle change, not temporary.

I have found through experience that every thing effects a childs breathing, the toxins that come from cars, pollen, unseen mold in the house, when my children were younger every kid in the neighborhood was on albuterol because we were told they all had asthma, we know now it was a direct result of living in a high traffic area and having a graphite factory near us. Look around your area and use your instincts
