eggs are not vegetarian.

egg producing chickens don't get treated like gold either.

matter of fact it's serious waste... you should see what they do to the males... and the females who don't produce.. instead of tormenting them and making them edible meat.. they just toss them into a dumpster.. and in some cases place meal for them to eat...

ok... like that makes that more humane...

not.

simple as that.. mass production is not desirable if you want humanity..

even with... ah hem... silly as it seems.. vegetables and fruits... (along with other hard celled materials that aren't animal)

this site shows a picture of males in a dumpster...

Eggs are suitable for ovo- or ovolacto-vegetarians. A lot of vegetarians will only eat free-range eggs and the UK Vegetarian Society will only approve such eggs. Vegans will not eat eggs as they are an animal product.

I worked in India for a while where you could buy both vegetarian eggs and non-vegetarian eggs.

The difference is a vegetarian egg is from a chicken that was segregated from a cockerel, whereas a fertilised egg could contain a tiny embryo, which was obviously non-vegetarian.

And in India these things are taken seriously for religious reasons.

Technically an egg is an embryo of a chicken so it can be considered an animal. Many vegetarians shy away from eating the animal itself and not the by-product ie milk, cheese, eggs while vegans tend to shy away from anything that has to do with an animal including items such as milk because it comes from the animal. Hope this helps!

There are no "types" of vegetarians. You either are or you aren't. Eggs are vegetarian.

People are making up new definitions for vegetarian because they want to call themselves vegetarian but they don't meet the criteria. The vegan society did the same thing with the definition of vegan.

It depends on what type of a vegetarian you are some don't eat anything that is living or anything that comes from an animal so it is your own choice

The vegetarian society only approves free range eggs.

In my opinion if you are veggie you should only eat free range eggs from hens fed on a natural diet (grains etc and having access to small bugs etc that they would eat in "the wild").

However I would imagine if you were a pro-life veggie I'd imagine that would be against your ethics.

It depends on the veggie and why you are a veggie!

Lacto-ovo-vegetarians eat eggs. Vegans (or "pure" vegetarians) will not eat anything that comes from an animal. Such as; meat, eggs, milk, honey, gelatin, whey, etc.
