When you start counting genuinely, you do realise how tough it is. This is if you take for example, one slice of tomato in a sandwich as not counting as a serving (which some people do).
I have found that the best way to ensure my more than 5 a day is to juice.
I have a juice before breakfast and one before dinner. Often, each will have 5 different veg or fruit. For example, pineapple, beetroot, pomegranate, lemon and apple in the morning and carrot, apple, celery, cucumber and lemon in the evening.
That's 7 already and then anything you eat during the day is a bonus.
I have definitely found that I consume much more fruit and veg, both in quantity and variety by juicing.
It's definitely worth a try. Make sure you get an easily cleaned juicer though or you will get bored of it!
Good luck

Are these answers from vegetarians? If so, tsk tsk. I am surprised so few people (vegetarians or not) get their 5 a day- that is the minimum for health not the optimum. Some fruits count as two servings (a banana I think) - a glass of V8 is a couple (tho cooked is not as healthy as raw) - I often have nothing but vegetables for dinner. By the way, a potato is a vegetable (high in antioxidants) but a pita bread is not.

i get more than five (probably about 10 a day), being a ovo-vegetarian. a portion is the size of your palm, so i'm sure that people eat more than they realise.
i love my fruit and veggies, so i find it really easy.
banana with toast for breakfast and some fruit juice - two portions. fruit snacks during the day - 1 or 2 portions, 3 veggie portions with my lunch, 3 with my dinner, and then maybe some fruit for pudding.
remember that juice counts as one, and even dried fruit counts as a portion. though don't have too much dried fruit as it does contain a lot of sugar (though natural fruit sugar but it's more concentrated as the fruit is dried) and can have a slight laxative effect!

I get 12 a day for the last 14 years. Alot of ppl think a serving is larger than it is - with no help from commercials for powder substitutes.
A serving is the size of 1 fruit or carrot.

I manage 5 most days. Smoothie with breakfast, veggies in a salad at lunch or with my dinner and get those yogurts that have a portion of fruit in each one.

I'm assuming that you mean the 5 portions of fruit & veg that nutritionists reccomend.
Usually 3-4 on an average day for me. Depends.
i.e.
BREAKFAST
* Bowl of muesli (tablespoon of raisins mixed with oats and bran flakes) & banana = 2
* Toast & banana / apple = 1
* Porridge with orange juice = 1
* Fruit smoothie = 2 (one from the whole crushed fruit, the second from the juice)
LUNCH
* Baked potato & cheese topping = 0
* Chopped tomatoes on toast = 1
* Soup & roll = 1
* Pasta salad = 1
* Sandwich = 0/1 (depends on filling)
DINNER
* Stir-fried vegetables & cous cous = 1
* Quorn mince and pasta = 0
* Baked potato topped with hummus & lettuce = 1
* Baked potato topped with baked beans = 1

I think I might get more than 5. I eat fruit and 2 servings of vegetables with every meal. Snacks usually consist of grains and fruit.

I far exceed 5 a day. I usually have a ton of fruit for breakfast, a gigantic salad in a bowl the size of my head piled with different veggies. . .sometimes crushed beans over it. . .and then my boyfriend and I have this nightly "tradition" of piling the blender to the rim with all kinds of different fruits, which makes both him and me a gigantic smoothie. . .
