If a person has HPV, does this make them ineligible to donate blood in the future ?

People with HPV can still donate blood. HPV is a direct skin to skin contact virus and affects the skin of a person, not the blood.

According to the American Red Cross:
"Chlamydia, venereal warts (human papilloma virus), or genital herpes are not a cause for deferral if you are feeling healthy and well and meet all other eligibility requirements."

According to the New York Blood Center, a person who tests positive for HPV can donate after being treated for the virus and being symptom free for 12 months.

All donated blood is later tested for diseases, including STDs. If the test is positive, the donor will be notified and their blood discarded.
