Because it doesn't mean "vegan." It means "vegetarian and/or vegan." The * is a wild character that substitutes for the a in vegan and the etaria in vegetarian. Just a bit of shorthand for when you're referring to both.

I think it's just short for vegetarian.. some people say veg*n instead meaning either vegetarian or vegan. I don't like that concept though because let's be honest there's a difference between vegetarianism and veganism.

Veg*n or veg*an is shorthand for "vegetarian or vegan." Some people use the "a" and others don't. I prefer to use the "a" because it makes clear my preference for vegan. The "*" is a wild operator that means any number of characters or none at all.

they do no longer form it as a exchange of "vegan." They form it as a exchange of "vegetarian and/or vegan." that is shorthand for the two, because of the fact the * is a wild characted for the "a" in vegan or the "etaria" in vegetarian. that is in uncomplicated terms an elementary thank you to verify with one or the two with much less typing.

I was under the assumption "veg*n" was nothing more than people being to lazy to type out the full word.. vegetarian.

Um, it's a short way of saying "vegetarian" AND "vegan". Some people say veg(etari)an but veg*n is obviously easier to type.

You're welcome :-)

Edit: Marina, yeah but sometimes, if they share the same opinion (e.g. meat eating), it makes sense to ask "veg*ns" to answer.

American laziness. The next thing will be VG, but that would give the impression that you're talking about some nasty Venereal Desease.

Because it's really really neat! I say "vegers" and you'll see soon that I shouldn't.
