Where is the meat in this veggie roll?

2007-10-12 03:20:23 · answer #1 · answered by Pacito 5 · 2 1

I've heard it all.......My therory is that anyone who insults a vegetarian does so because of the embarrassment / shame they feel for having other lives ended so that they can eat what they like. They get defensive because deep down they know it is wrong to eat animals these days (we are only still part of the food chain because people WANT to be). Anyone who says it is neccessary to be healthy is talking crap...I am 24 years old and have NEVER eaten meat and am the healthiest person I know. There are always alternatives - even for omega 3, 6 and 9 (flax seed oil is the best). If meat eaters become veggie then get ill it's because they are being lazy and not finding alternatives for the vits and mins they have stopped consuming since giving up meat.

There are far more ignorant comments uttered by meat eaters to me than I can even remember!
Here is a very small sample of some of them.

- we used to eat meat in prehistoric times (obviously not a fan of evolution then)

- vegetables cry when you pick them (surely through their invisible and as yet undiscovered carrot-tear-ducts)

- vegetables feel pain too (of course they do...... and mushrooms are homes for little tiny dwarves)

- what if it's only a little bit and really finely chopped (said without a hint of irony by a waiter in a Spanish restaurant)

- what if I give you some bread and you can dip it in the sauce the meat has been cooked in (another brilliant culinary idea from afore-mentioned waiter)

- Oh my God!! Where do you get your iron from?? (in a really shocked voice by someone who clearly did not have a basic grasp of nutrition)

- You will never grow if you don't eat meat (by my grandfather. I am 6ft and the tallest in my family)

- Why? (after saying I am vegetarian. Is uttered by almost everybody. As though people just went around questioning everybody else's food choices on a regular basis. Why are you drinking coffee? Why did you choose the sorbet? Why are you going for the garlic bread as a starter why why why). Why can't people just accept it and realise that EVERYONE asks the same question.

"if we weren't meant to eat animals why are they made of meat"
then i say SO ARE YOU YOU IDIOTS lol humans are also made of meat and you dont see anyone eating them!
also they always say
god put animals on this earth to be eaten
1~im a christian and also a vegetarian i have read the bible and know about Noah's ark why the heck would he choose to put 2 of every animal in a place they would be safe and drown all the humans if they were "meant" to be dead and eaten?
2~how do they know if animals were meant to be eaten did they personally ask the lord?nope, doubt that very much
I'm a passionate animal lover and disagree with ANY violence that is inflicted on animals but some of the things some dudes come out with are quite amusing because there is nothing they can say which will excuse murder.

I actually am a meat eater so I dont really hear that, but I know its bad like:

You are the ones responsible for endangered animals because all the herbivores dont have enough grass because youre eating it all.
horrible right?
I can understand why youre a vegetarian, sorry, but I cant live longer than a week with out some sort of meat, even if they drained the nutrients and 'cow' out of the burger...

"do vegetarians eat quiche?"

"yes, i eat Quiche"

" do you want some quiche then?"

" yes please"

"it's a ham quiche"

ha ha ha- aaaargh!

been a veggie 20 years - people (and i say people, not just meat eaters) are thick sometimes. However as a meat eater i learnt how to skin a rabbit and pluck a pheasant or chicken and if meat eaters start on me i just describe that. many meat eaters will eat meat but don't like to think about gizzards and guts.

someone once said to me "you should eat meat you know" and then they looked shocked when i bit him on the arm. ha ha ha.

i don't attack meat eaters (except that one time) and expect the same courtesy returned.

Today we were playing continuous kickball (line of kids just keep kicking the ball and running around the gym to home plate while the other team tries to always have at least one ball in a designated area at one time) in P.E. and we have a sort of special-education kid in our class; no one really likes him (he can get rather violent at times, but if people stopped teasing him he might not be like that) but he was our last kicker and didn't make it to the rest of the group in time for us to get full points. Well, there was this one kid and he said "Hey, X!" (I won't use real names online) "You suck!" or some other such idiotic thing. I told him off... I just plainly stated that it was rude. And you know what he said "I can't tell the slow kid he's slow?" And then he did his stupid little horse laugh that he does after nearly every sentence that comes out of his immature mouth.

It made me so mad. So freakin' mad. The complete injustice and utter stupidity of this boy made me want to scream and give an impromtu and inconvienient speech about how the reason there is violence in schools is because self-centered and insecure idiots like HIM make fun of poor kids like X. If I wanted to be suspended for fighting, I would have decked him right in his idiotic face. I swear I would have.

I am a "meat eater" myself, though. I am only assuming this jerk is too.

"Why bother? Just eat meat"
"You're going to die young"
"Mmmm dead pig"
"Fish don't feel"
"Cows are dumb anyway"
"Cows NEED to be milked... we're helping them"
"I buy free-range eggs so it's alright"
"If we didn't eat animals, they'd overrun us"
"You're going to waste away"
"All the vegetarians I've met look pale and thin"
"We're meant to eat meat, it's an eat or be eaten world"

... The list could go on.

I really don't see any problem with this question. I never bring up my veganism in the real world and never condemn people for eating meat, yet I always get grief for being a vegan when it's no one's business but my own. The contempt a lot of people have towards us is unbelievable! It's good we have sites like this for a bit of support... even though it is full of bitter meat eaters and trolls.

"Do you really think you're going to make a difference? What are you going to save, like one cow??"

I think deep down inside some people react this way because they think that we're doing this to be better people and they automatically feel defensive. I don't think I'm better than anyone and I simply do it because it makes ME feel good. What's so wrong about that? It's hurtful to hear comments like that. And this was one that I just heard last night from my nephew! It all comes back to this... if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all. Why do they feel the need to comment??

I'm a meat eater but along the same lines a friend of mine who is a veggie was going on about how it's wrong to kill animals for food. He was wearing Doc Martins and a leather jacket. My reply to him was "You wear it and I'll eat it."
