EKG or ECG means electrocardiogram. It measures the "electrical signals" that flow through your heart. (The pumping of your heart is control by that "electrical signals"). Sometimes, EKG can pick up changes when the anatomy of your heart changes, or when the blood supply to your heart decreases, or when you have abnormal conduction or rhythm. However, an EKG is not diagnostic (a normal heart may also produce abnormal EKG sometimes) and thus an echocardiogram (using ultrasound technology to look at the structure and functionality your heart) and a stress test (to see how well your heart is doing while you exercise) is necessary to see if anything serious is going on with your heart. Both of the test are not invasive and not painful. As for the mean time, don't be too worry about it. However, do go see your doctor quickly is you feel any chest pain (particularly if it is radiating to your left arm), waking up at night coughing or feeling shortness of breath. Well, hope this answer your question and good luck in your later examination.

your ekg has little to do with the flow of blood, what it shows is the electrical impulses that make the heart beat. Sometimes, as we age, the electrical current can change, or become impaired causing the heart to beat in an irregular fashion, it is common, not something to become obsessed with. Your doctor is doing the right thing at this point to check out the extent of the abnormality, but you aren't going to suddenly drop over or die because of a little irregular heartbeat. Relax, you don't do yourself any good at all by becoming all worked up.

First, anything told to you on this site can only be generic. I advise you contact your Dr. for a full explanation and prognosis for your individual situation. What you read here can be cause for unnecessary worry.
The electrocardiogram test measures the strength , location and timing of the electrical impulses that activate the heart muscle.
An irregular electrical pulse causes fluctuations in the rhythm and can cause interference with the optimum blood flow in,or out of the heart.
There are medications that can in most cases regulate the timing and decrease the effect on the flow to the lungs or body.
If the difference is severe enough it may be necessary to have a pace maker to control the timing of the impulse to the.
heart.
A heart mummer is an incomplete closing of a valve, possibly effected by a poorly timed heart beat, or damaged valve.
Contact your doctor for a full explanation of your condition. Only your Dr. can advise you of your prognosis, and treatment.
You may worry unnecessarily by knowing the possibilities that may not apply to you.

talk to your doctor
the stress test is to see how well your heart works with exercise, wear comfortable shoes no caffeine, albuterol (asthma), bronchodilators, nicotine
echo is to look at the inside of your heart
irregular heart rhthms are sometimes not even treated when they are asymptomatic
do you have swelling, shortness of breath, water retention? if so, mention these to your doctor as well
