1) A diet lower in fat and cholesterol.

2) You are not contributing to the 10 billion animals killed every year for food. There's the oft-quoted stat of saving 90+ animals per year.

3) You are using fewer resources. It takes roughly 3 to 15 pounds of grain (depending on the animal) to produce a pound of meat. It takes 10 times the fossil fuels to produce a calorie of animal food (roughly 75-80) than a calorie of plant food. Soy, by the way, is very efficient at only 2 calories of fuel per calorie of food produced. Meat production takes hundreds of times the water as plant production.

4) Pollution. According to the UN, animal industry produces more greenhouse gases than all the vehicles in the world. The US Environmental Protection Agency states that runoff from animal industrial facilities causes more pollution than all other industrial sources. One way to take a bite out of global warming is to eat lower on the food chain.

Hope this helps.

probably the best answer is that the land required to grow or raise meat products can provide the same amount energy to 10 times the number of people who eat just plants versus those that eat meat. (i am a science teacher who teaches this to his 10th grade biology classes). Hence as the population grows more individuals can be fed if meat products are removed or at least reduced greatly in our diet. hope this helps

When done correctly, your diet can be very healthy.

"1) A diet lower in fat and cholesterol."----a vegetarian diet in which the veges are consistently cooked in butter is higher in ffat and cholestorol than a sensibly cooked omnivore diet.

I would take anything veggie tart says with more than a grain of salt. There is very little factuality involved as is demonstrated in this question and answer:
