Veganism is a way of living which excludes all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, the animal kingdom...and includes a reverence for life...

It applies to the practice of living on the products of the plant kingdom to the exclusion of flesh, fish, fowl, eggs, honey, animal milk and its derivatives...and encourages the use of alternatives for all commodities derived wholly or in part from animals...

Aside from that...vegans do not eat honey from bees because bees make it for their own survival...

When it is made for human consumption the bees are enslaved. The extraction of honey from honeycombs causes some bees to be crushed...and forces other bees to defend themselves--thus causes them to die when they sting...

Besides there is vegan honey which is animal cruelty free!

And bee honey is made from their vomit....
They puke it out of their stomachs...

Ok, I'll try to explain this as best I can because It's very easy to be misunderstood in here.

I am not a vegan, but I do not consume milk or honey (or eggs).
Just look at the beliefs of a vegan for one second without judging, try to understand their viewpoint. They consume NOTHING from an animal.
Wouldn't an insect be an animal?

Look, I'm not all for insect rights or something, honestly I don't even like bees, or bugs in general-- with the exception of lady bugs, lightning bugs, and butterflies :D.
I am the typical city girl and I am freaked out by bugs.
BUT if I think that it is wrong to forcibly take something from one type of animal, wouldn't that make me a hypocrite to say, "Hey well, because it's a bee and I can't pet it, that means it's OK to take something from them."?
Yes it would, I'd compare taking honey from a bee to taking milk from cow. In both cases we (humans) take something from an animal that it makes for itself (or it's young) and not only that but we sell it to other humans. I don't think that the bee flys up to a human and says, "Hey human, here is some honey for your tea."
So it would be hypocritical to say it's wrong to take milk from cows but it's perfectly fine to take honey from bees.
If you look at it like that, it's really not that hard to understand.

I am a vegan, and we do not believe in taking anything that doesn't belong to us. Honey is made by bees, FOR bees. They travel as far as 55,000 miles and visit more than two million flowers to gather enough nectar to make just a pound of honey...yet we bottle millions of pounds of it a year. Do the math. If we keep it up honey bees will surely be extinct. Bees are an important part of the circle of life, if bees go extinct, then potentially dozens of species could follow in their footsteps. And in the long run, you may not have that slab of beef in your mouth now would you?

Rather than bitching about our legitimate reasoning when you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about, you should go whack off in your mom's basement some more.

well I have thought about the whole honey and bee thing but heh! And its a personal choice they make and some of them were just born like that. I dont know what the big deal is just because someone doesn't eat the same things you do shouldn't mean it should mean you start pissing or protesting. It's like some people and sushi.

Well, I'm not a vegan but I know a few and yes, they are serious about that. If they are ethical vegan (as opposed to people who are vegans for health reasons), I think the basic premise is that all living things have a right to exist without being used for human consumption. Plus, there are so many non-animal alternatives to honey.

Didn't you ask the EXACT SAME question a couple of days ago?

Vegans don't eschew honey just because it belongs to the bee, but because the bee NEEDS it to survive the winter. If a swarm of bees came into your home and made off with your entire kitchen full of food you'd be a little pissed.

Vegans are opposed to eating/supporting anything that is the product of any animal, and that includes insects. It also has something to do with the fact that the bees are disturbed to get the honey, and they are smoked out of their hives. The smoke disorients them and kills some of them, and that is viewed as cruel. Also, my vegan friends wonder why anybody would want to eat honey, since what it basically is, is bee vomit. Who would want to eat that? That being said, my boss raises bees, and doesn't use smoke or anything to collect the honey, and he leaves them plenty to live on throughout the winter, so I personally don't see anything wrong with it. But to each his own, I suppose.

whoa, total deja vu here.

you asked this same question a few days ago. didn't the answers you get the first time satisfy your curiosity? or you just felt like posting this question again to point out how "crazy" vegans are?

vegans don't eat honey. get over it.

Okay, OP! Go suck your mother's boob! Seriously! Suck your mother's boob! Is it ridiculous? Of course! We're the only species that consumes milk after childhood. Cow's milk is made for one thing - baby cows! I'm a vegetarian edging slowly into veganism. It's baby steps here. I don't drink milk, eat cheese, or ice cream, and am now looking to cut other things out of my diet, and now that I know honey is a no-no, I'm probably going to be not eating that either. I also find it funny how meat eaters ***** about us ragging on them for eating meat, yet they have no problem ragging on us for not eating it. It's very hypocritical. I personally find it crazy to eat something that was once living. Would you eat a cat or dog? Think about that for a minute...

i didnt know about the honey thing...who said that. but cow's milk is for baby cows not healthy for humnas...you would believe the milk industry if they tell you it is...do your own research...its not. no other species drink another species milk...we are idiots. let a cow suck your tit or any other animal for that matter. would it be right for you to feed your kitten your milk...yuck, thats what her mother is for.
