I have been to numerous pot luck with my church people and I noticed that most people tend tobring the easiest to prepare dish or even buy them from the grocery stores... salads or desserts. It is rare that someone wld take the effort to make everybody's favorite.
What abt you? What wld u prepare... something most ppl like or the easiest available dish?

It has always been our courtesy to prepare our best dishes irregardly the effort or time. We wld ask those attending for their opinion before we decide on the dishes. We just want people to enjoy eating.

Pot luck was the event to share your favorite dish with friends while making new friends and I'm always prepare something special for it. Always plan ahead to prepare enough food and the right ingredients.
I used to prepare 22lb thanksgiving turkey with Asian tweak as it stand out from the rest!!! (I saw >50% of people brought quick & easy salad and ice cream). Well, my turkey dish were popular and I was requested to prepare it 4 years back to back. Of cause, I modified the recipe each year.
Also, take times to label your food becuase some of your friends might have problem with seafood, nuts, milk and etc. So everyone know what dish were safe to eat.

My goal would be to bring the easiest dish that everyone likes.
For an entree, it would be something in a crock pot since I can keep the food hot (for food safety reasons) which would be delish and easy to make.
For desserts, I'd bake a pie or two. If there were a lot of people. I'd go to costco and buy their pies. I know they're pies are yummy and can feed a lot of people.
For salads, I'd probably make my own mac salad, potato salad, deviled eggs... etc. However, I'd make big tub that could sit in a cooler, again for food safety reasons, and have a serving bowl that I can refill as needed.
So it looks like make my own dishes, unless there's a lot of people, after which it just depends upon how much time we have.

If any way possible I would make something, some kind of casserole, or one-pot meal such as chicken and dumplings and/or a dessert.
If it's not a convenient time I would pick up some dishes at a deli.
Just do the best you can. It's supposed to be about the fellowship and there are always those who will criticize whatever you do.

There are many things I take into consideration:
Is the potluck inside at somebody's house vs a picnic or beach party?
Is it kid friendly food or simply adults?
Is it veg or non veg?
Is there a theme involved?
I try to prepare dishes that would accomodate the majority of the people. The worst thing is to go to a potluck with a dish that no one touches for whatever reason: too spicy, it's a non veg dish....

Collie, my collie is the best behaved dog I've ever seen. Very sweet and gentle but very protective of her family and home. She's big and beautiful. Doesn't require a lot of exercise as most big dogs do, but has the energy to keep up with playful kids.

this is easy to make and a dish you will ever bring home. You mix cream cheese and powdered sugar to the sweetness for your choice then cut the top off the strawberry and a small cut on the bottom to make it stand then fill it with the cream chez & sugar and top off with toasted almonds and it tastes like strawbeery cheese cake. Everyone loves them.

I would make something that people like. Since I love to cook easy is only an issue if I'm really pressed for time.

I always cook something. I really don't like to take something that has been prepared at the store.

I usually make something unique or exotic and hope everybody will at least try, maybe even like it... usually that is not the easiest or cheapest though...
