One of my friends tried telling me it does. I told her to shut up and mind her own business. Eating is a personal choice and i'll eat however I choose.

I have copied and posted Verse 11 of Leviticus where it explains which animals can be eaten and which ones can't be used for food. Please note 11:20-23 where it shows which insects are permitted for food (grasshoppers okay, cockroaches not okay).

I can't find any part that says you "have to eat meat."

Everyone interprets the Bible differently, that is why there are hundreds of different Christian churches that follow some similar practices, yet different at the same time. So maybe to her when she reads the Bible it does indeed say that to her, or to someone else whom taught her that, but perhaps when someone else reads the same scripture they will get a different opinion on the matter. Also some people have different views on what is said in the old testament in comparison with the new testament. If she told you that, you can politely say "that's nice"

The bible does nowhere require eating meat.

#1 in Genesis, when the world was perfect before Adam and Eve sinned, God gave them a vegan diet.. So.. if that was his "ideal" why would he have a problem with us eating that way??

#2.. When God sent the flood to wipe out most living things, he GAVE PERMISSION at that point in time for Noah and his family to eat meat, as there was no plant life anymore and it would take time to re-grow after the flood.

#3.God gave the Jews a list of meats that were clean and meats that were unclean in LEviticus 11. This was for their own good health.. note that the animals that are clean are pretty much herbivores.. Animals that eat junk, scavenge, etc.. were listed as unclean..

#4.. While on Earth.. Jesus at the very least SERVED fish to other people.. THis implies he had no problem with the consumption of clean meats.. HOWEVER.. it's interesting to note that there wasn't the pollution there is today, or the modern meat-raising practices that make eating meat so horribly inhumane and dangerous to our healtht.

#5... the dream Peter had with the sheet and animals had nothing to do with actual eating unclean meats.. If you keep reading, Peter wasn't confused at all, After he woke up, he didn't tell the people "God told me to call no meat unclean," he said "God told me to call no MAN common or unclean" Did this mean GOd told him to be a cannibal? No.. God used a dream about eating (incidentally while Peter was hungry and waiting for suppertime) because the Jews viewed eating unclean meat (Being unkosher) in much the same way as they viewed association with Gentiles (non-Jews). God was telling him to change his views about Gentiles.. To not consider them "unclean" or "unable to be children of God" If you read the entire chapter, it's obvious that the dream wasn't to tell Peter to no longer be kosher..

The bible also says that slaves should mind their owners, so I suppose that makes slavery all right?

The temple in Jerusalem was the largest slaughterhouse in the world. Jews - which would obviously include Jesus - were required to make sacrifices of slaughtered animals to God. So there is some support of what your friend says.

But it doesn't specifically state that you need to eat meat. For instance, a diet of locusts and honey seems to be ok.

Probably not. Besides that, it's not up to a bunch of men who wrote the bible so long ago to judge anyones choice. People evolve (for the most part) and adapt. This world is nothing like that world.

It does say that you should take what God gives to you; there's a story about a Jewish man who is starving, and God sends him a rabbit to eat. The man wouldn't eat it, however, because he couldn't slaugher it in a kosher way. God then punished him.

But no, the Bible does not explicitly say that you must eat meat. The Koran, however, does. But that's a different story.

Anyway, try to get your friend to show you the passage in the Bible that she got that idea from. She may have good evidence, and she may not.

there's nowhere in the Bible that says you HAVE to eat meat. the Bible certainly doesn't forbid eating meat, but it doesn't require it either.

i hate when people say stupid things and say they're in the Bible. i think they do it just figuring that the Bible's a really big book and you're not going to read through the whole thing to prove them right or wrong.

"Eating Meat"
The bible doesn't force us to eat meat or forbid us to eat meat. It does give us guidlines in the right meat to eat.
1. It tells us not to eat meat that is not bled or cleansed of its blood.

2. Dont eat the meat of an animal that has been killed and not immediately eaten. So in other words don't eat the meat of an expired animal.

3. It's not saying if we have bought meat when it was still fresh at the store, then we bring it home and we dont eat it immediately or even if it expires it's wrong to eat. That is our own choice if we like to eat expired meat from our fridge that's you.

*Note the bible gives us these guidlines to follow read your bible more and you'll understand.

Who cares what the Bible says? It also says that if one person in a city worships a false god that the entire population should be slaughtered. That is just one fun example.

A tender answer turns away wrath....

First, if you are friends you should have respect for one another. You don't shove your beliefs down peoples throats, and you don't tell your friends to shut up. Disrespect on both sides there.

To the best of my knowledge there is nothing in the Bible says you have to eat meat, but in the old testament there were meats they were NOT suppose to eat.

Love, be nice, peaceable,
