No, true vegetarians do not. Unless you are a piscivore. They do not eat any meat except for fish and sea animals like shrimp.

Some people call themselves vegetarian and eat fish, chicken, beef or whatever. I'm not sure why they do that.

I don't eat any animals and I don't consider those people to be real vegetarians.

There is no such thing as a "vegetarian license." Those who claim to be vegetarian and eat meat will not be arrested or fined, and there is no vegetarian card to be revoked. (Sounds like a good idea to me, though.)

Last time I checked, shrimp and fish were animals, and vegetarians--note the spelling, please--do NOT eat the flesh of animals.

A true vegetarian would not eat meat from anything. If you thing about it isnt it a bit bias to say you won't eat one animal over another? Wheather fish or bird or cow or sheep, they are all living animals.

Some vegetarians think have milk or milk and eggs is okay. Others, called vegans, won't have anything that is an animal or animal by product. I think fish doesn't fall into the catagory because you have to KILL it. You don't kill milk to consume it, or eggs since they aren't fertilized.

No. The only seafood that vegetarians can eat are sea vegetables like seaweed, kelp etc. But that's mostly in East Asian cuisine.

Nope, that would make you a PISCIVORE

Because everybody needs a label --- your handy-dandy complete list of labels. (updated 9/19/07)

VEGETARIAN (Lacto-ovo- vegetarian)
When most people think of vegetarians, they think of lacto-ovo-vegetarians. People who do not eat beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish or animal flesh of any kind, but do eat eggs and dairy products are lacto-ovo vegetarians (“lacto” comes from the Latin for milk, and “ovo” for egg).
Lacto-vegetarian is used to describe a vegetarian who does not eat eggs, but does eat dairy products.
Ovo-vegetarian refers to people who do not eat meat or dairy products but do eat eggs.

VEGAN
Vegans do not eat meat of any kind and also do not eat eggs, dairy products, or processed foods containing these or other animal-derived ingredients such as gelatin. There is some debate as to whether certain foods, such as honey, fit into a vegan diet.

FRUITARIANS –
They eat only fruits, nuts and seeds.(This includes the fruit of vegetables such as tomatoes and courgettes. However they never eat the roots of plants such as carrots and potatoes)

PISCIVORE –
The word piscivore is used to describe those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. Although the word is not commonly used, more and more people are adopting this kind of diet, usually for health reasons or as a stepping stone to a fully vegetarian diet. Pescatarian is occasionally used but is incorrect.

POULTRYIVORE –
Eats chicken and turkey, but does not eat mammals.

POULTRYPHOBIC-
Won’t eat chicken or turkey, but eats all other animals

FLEXITARIAN/ SEMI-VEGETARIAN/ DEMIVEGETARIAN
You don’t have to be vegetarian to love vegetarian food! “Flexitarian” is a term recently coined to describe those who eat a mostly vegetarian diet, but occasionally eat meat.

RAW VEGAN/RAW FOOD DIET
A raw vegan diet consists of unprocessed vegan foods that have not been heated above 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius). “Raw foodists” believe that foods cooked above this temperature have lost a significant amount of their nutritional value and are harmful to the body.

MACROBIOTIC
The macrobiotic diet, revered by some for its healthy and healing qualities, includes unprocessed vegan foods, such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and allows the occasional consumption of fish. Sugar and refined oils are avoided. Perhaps the most unique qualifier of the macrobiotic diet is its emphasis on the consumption of Asian vegetables, such as daikon, and sea vegetables, such as seaweed.

OMNIVORE –
Eats both animal and plant matter. A slang derogatory term for FLEXITARIAN.

CARNIVORE
Only eats meat.

LANDIVORE
Eats meat, but does not eat seafood or fish.
CONFUSITARIAN –
Someone who thinks vegetarians eat meat.

KINGDOM CHALLENGED
Someone who thinks that fish or chicken is a plant. Or that an eggplant is an animal.

HERBIVORE
Same as a vegetarian

SUSHIVORE
Eats fish but only uncooked.

BEEFEATER –
Guards the Tower of London.

SNACKATARIAN –
Will not eat snacks made in the image of animals. E.g. Chocolate Easter Bunny, Animal crackers, goldfish crackers, gummy bears, or swedish fish.

STRICT SNACKATARIAN –
Won’t eat chocolate easter eggs as well.

OVO-SNACKATARIAN
Will eat Chocolate Easter eggs, but not the chocolate easter bunny etc,

PESCASNACKATARIAN
Will eat goldfish crackers and swedish fish but will not eat gummy bears, chocolate easter bunny and animal crackers.
