Hello,
Well I have been practiceing Wicca as a solitary for about 8-10 years now. I have never actually been with a coven nor have I even heard anything about any in my area. First question is what are the benefits of joining a coven? second how would one go about locating a coven and getting into it? is there someone specifically I should speak with in the coven to start the process? any help is greatly appreciated.

yeah Kris A. it could be quite a let down lol. As far as starting my own coven I truly think that I will leave coven running up to someone with more experience than I. lol

We don't have covens, we have kindreds. But for us specifically its about community and kin, home and hearth. It also feels nice to have a group of people who "get you" and share your spiritual interests. It's nice to have people who you can ask questions to and share ritual, offerings, joy and sorrows on the same level that you do.
I have the most amazing Heathen friends on line. One of them is fast becoming one of the best friends I've ever had. But it still doesn't fill that little space that a face to face group gives you. The community is large if you can get your foot in. There are more of them around then you think. Just start cruising yahoo groups in your state, witchvox, ask questions to people when it feels right. I have a HUGE group of pagan friends, covens, families and kindreds. I wouldn't trade them for ANYTHING.

Benefits include sharing of group energy, becoming a part of a very close knit group of people, and learning from the experience of other covenmates.

The best database by far is at witchvox.com. However, many covens never advertise. The ones on witchvox.com tend to be more loosely organized and more eclectic in nature. The fact is that many of us never find a suitable coven (me included). Don't feel compelled to join a coven. even if you do find one, it very well may have dofferent goals and outlooks than yourself, and then it doesn't really help you.

Though witchvox is a sometimes, good way to go it can be a let down to .In looking back about 5 to 6 years ago I found noone willing to help me or even return my e-mails.Only to find out that a lot of covens have fallen out of practice or just no longer exist. So left with that option you can always start your own.

You don't NEED to be in a coven... but I think the whole point of one is to keep you on track and give you some support. Try witchvox.com if you want to find a coven.

Look for a tradition, not a coven.

The benefit of a tradition is people who've done it before and can help guide you through the hard times.

Find a trad, and if a coven's right for you, you'll find one.

Don't know. Maybe witchvox? I looked once but never found one in my area. Make sure you want to make that step before you do. And there right, most don't advertise. If you really want to you will have to put it all out there. Good luck wiccan brother/sister.

Go to witchovox.com and log in to your state/area. They have different groups, clergy, and personal listings for your area. Contact one of these and there you go. Blessings!
