It is called a vagal response. it has happened to me too. you are probably going in too deep.

as to putting a q tip in your ear you said it makes you cough any ear doctor will tell you not to use q tips in your ear it just makes it worse

You went a little too far. Good time to do this is after showering or swimming and wet the Q tip with alcohol

I think it touches nerves in your ears that are conected to your throught, because that happens to me too, or it could be because you are sticking it in too far

I know what you mean! I feel a scratchiness in my throat when I do it too. It probably means we're sticking the Q-tip in too deep. :-)

I've never had that happen, but my guess would be that you tickle your eustacian tube, which tickles your throat.
