Please list in order your reason(s) for being veg or vegan. For example: 1. ethics 2. health 3. environmental. I would like to see which reason is your priority and which is a lesser priority for you. If you want to get the 10 points, provide some extra analysis/reasoning in your answer.
If you are not vegan or vegetarian, why are you spending your time answering a question that no one is asking you?

I don't believe in killing animals for the sake of a hamburger.

My reasons
==========
1. Ethics = Most important reason by far.
2. Health = second important, meat is bad for many things as cholesterol and ehem..can the guys say impotence causer.
3. Invironment = Third but is also very important in my mind to conserve this earth as its our only home!

I am vegetarian, thinking of going vegan when living on my own or with a gf.

1. The animals are treated horrifically.
It's easy for me to be vegan. What's hard is being the "weirdo" because I am against animal torture. Even worse are the people who abide by the "personal choice" philosophy. ("Respect my decision to eat meat and I'll respect yours not to.") The entire basis of morality is that we should be able to choose our own actions ONLY so far as those actions harm no one else. Vegetarians and vegans count animals, sentient beings, as someone else.

2. Health reasons. It's so ironic that our society is plagued with obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, and yet MY lifestyle is the one that gets questioned as "unhealthy." I've been vegan since conception, but the people in my life who have made the switch to the plant based diet we are supposed to eat have had so many benefits (losing weight, clearer skin, more energy) that it's hard to deny which is the healthier lifestyle.

3. Eating blood, pus, and sh*t is gross. Nuff said.

1. Environmental Reasons. Not very many people think about the adverse effects on the environment that are caused by raising animals (re: amount of water needed, fuel, sheer amount of natural resources needed to raise animals)

2. Health Reasons. Same reason why I don't drink milk. Think about it. It's weird. Humans are the only animals that drink milk after it's necessary. Gross. Excessive amounts of red meat aren't good for you, plus Americans overconsume protein as it is.

3. Ethics. Yeah, animals are mistreated, but so are human beings in third world countries. Do you veggies ban products from third world countries too and buy only fair trade things? Didn't think so. Don't complain about the "cutsie little animals getting hurt" then. Barf.

(1)Health (2)The Environment(3) Ethics
I had a girl friend who was about to have an operation (because she had cysts the size of a golf balls on her ovaries) she went to an herbalist who put her on a juice fast/detox as an alternative to the invasive surgery. I did the detox with her and for support. I never felt better and my skin was glowing. She never had the surgery. I got sick when I tried to eat meat again so I stopped. As far as the environment, just imagine the how much of our resources are squandered on the bovine we call food; like water, land and energy. Finally, because we have created such a demand; the need to increase the size and quantity of animals has caused bovine and chicken farmers to practice unethical and inhumane farming of these helpless animals. I use to love fried chicken but now it just leaves a um bad taste in my mouth.

There are sooooooooo many reasons! My personal reason is, I love little cute chickens, piggies, cows ext. How could I eat them?
The health benefits don't hurt either. I'll probably live seven years longer than you will (assuming you're not a vegetarian, if you are god for you 'cause you get to live long too).
Anyway, our teeth and intestine were designed for vegetables, not meat.
Next time you eat a big juicy steak, think abut the way the cow felt on the way to the slaughter house.

Ethics. I'm very tender hearted and I love animals. I felt that way since I was a small child. I had a dream when I was a kid; where I went on TV and told people to stop eating meat and they did. I know that dream was unrealistic, but it really stuck with me.

I couldn't become a vegetarian until I was grown up and moved out of my parent's house; my nurse mother was against it. She said "you'll be anemic, your muscles will atrophy, etc."

I educated myself in vegetarian nutrition just so I could argue with my mother. She finally backed off.

I was also very interested in Eastern religion and the Hindu concept of Ahimsa (non-violence) was very attractive to me.

Now I'm married to Hindu woman, she's vegetarian since birth, a Registered Dietitian with a Masters in Nutrition.

We both worked in a state mental hospital that was located in a small rural town in Missouri. As soon as I found out she was vegetarian, I wanted to go out with her; we had our 15th anniversary two weeks ago.
