I just became a vegetarian maybe about two or so weeks ago. I really dislike the fact of eating a poor innocent animal also i watched a gruesome video that led me to become a veggie .(oh and please don't go on to plants have feelings, thats a whole diffrent topic!) So anways my queston is how do I get enough protien in my diet? does anyone know any good sites i can get recipes off of? also would health food stores be the place to purchase food? I'm sixteen by the way,and my parents dislike the fact that I'm a veggie because i'm ''still growing'' and need protien. Is that true?

any help would be great! thanks =)

Unless you're not eating enough food, or you're eating too much junk food, you should be just fine. Really. Even vegans get more protein than they need.

Check out www.vegweb.com for recipes. Check out www.vegdining.com or www.happycow.net for restaurants all over the world (Happy Cow also lists health food stores). Trader Joe's and Whole Foods have good options, and you should be able to find what you need at most health food stores.

And, no, plants do not have nervous systems and since they are unable to escape from "predators," it's believed they do not feel pain. Certainly not like animals do.

You are still developing, and need protein, but it by no means needs to come from meat. Soy, nuts, various beans and the like are an excellent source of protein for a vegetarian, or if you want to be a little lazier, like me, there are a lot of yummy meat substitutes out there, and a lot of not so veggie meals that are easy to convert. (I'm particularly fond of using Boca ground or Morningstar Farms crumbles to make tacos.) A healthfood store is probably a decent place to get some of your food, but most medium to large sized grocery stores should have at least a small vegetarian section.

For recipes, you can just google search for vegetarian recipes and come up with quite the array. Also, though I intensely dislike PETA and their tactics/hypocrisy, their website does host some decent recipes as well.

Good luck!

Proteins are in nearly Every Vegetable.. just eat enough greens, orange and red veggies.. more important is you need to get the enzymes that your body is useto these are in fruit. Actually you could be very healthy eating mostly fruits and few veggies.. These people are called Fruitaterians...

Protein in pretty much in every food. Google the vegetarian food pyramid, pick up a book about vegetarianism (Vegetables Rock! a great book for teens) and google vegetarian recipes.

Choosing a healthier lifestyle is great! Make sure that you do your research on what you are really getting yourself into though. People who choose a veggie diet often have course and frizzy hair. Just a thought since you are only 16. Also research the effects of soy proteins on the body, especially in young women, it has been know to cause cancer...

What does protein have to do with your vegetarianism? There's protein in everything that's edible.
