To a point, if done correctly. There's a LOT of vegan junk food, so you can be just as unhealthy an eater, if you're not careful. Moreover, veganism is really more of a way to put yourself at and maintain a HEALTHY weight. No diet should be put to the extreme where it causes extreme weight loss rapidly.

i don't get where people are getting the impression the vegan lifestyle will make one lose weight.
losing weight means eating properly, no matter the diet preference. it means watching your caloric intake, be active, hydrating properly among many other elements.
i know many vegans and vegetarians who are quite plump... so unless you cut those calories and eat right.. no you're not going to lose weight.
calories are calories no matter the lifestyle.
but vegetarian and vegan diets are better over all.. since you must not eat processed elements. most foods on the shelf these days aren't good for you and many meats have additives also.. (unless you get it straight from a reliable butcher) you eat garbage.. the body will look it.
fresh produce is a good start... i'm not sure if you want to go vegan just to lose any weight.. but increasing your fresh produce.. fresh fruits, vegetables.. eating foods that aren't processed is a very good start.
along with exercise... and all those other things that help one stay healthy.

It can be. I mean there are alot of junk foods that are vegan and you wont lose weight eating those items. The secret to weight loss is avoiding refined foods, eat small healthy meals throughout the day and exercising at least 20 minutes a day.
By refined foods I mean junk food, white bread, regular pasta, white sugar and everything with added refined sugar.

You mean a vegetarian diet. Unless you grow your own food it's not possible to have a vegan diet. The veges "vegans" consume are fertilized with fertilizer from animal rendering plants. That is not vegan. Captive slave colonies of bees are used in commercial pollination. Exploitation is not vegan.
It amazes me that some people will completely ignore these facts and still pretend they're "vegan".
Considering the definition of vegan:
"Veganism is a way of living which excludes all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, the animal kingdom, and includes a reverence for life."
