This isn't so abnormal and there could be many causes for why it isn't lower. Tachycardia is a rate >100. Obesity, poor cardiopulmonary condition (couch potato), smoking, hypertension, anxiety, cardiac conditions, etc. can cause rapid heart rate. Because it sounds as if it worries you, speak to your doctor to rule out an organic cause for it. You may be glad you did.

You can't really judge anything from a one time reading but your BP seems ok and the high pulse rate is most likely just nerves; especially since you said it is a little painful when the cuff tightens this would cause an increase in your heart rate. Before you make any judgement its best to get an average over time so go back sometime and try again but form the looks of it you have nothing to worry about! The normal range is 60-100 anyways so you are right n the border of normal; your pulse may just be naturally a little high too

RE:
My pulse rate is 102?
Hi, I am 33 and my pulse rate varies from 95 to 102. Is there any problem if it is this high ? What could be the cause of this ?

A lot depends on the physical condition of your body. President Bush, who's very fit for his age, has a pulse under 60 beats per minute. There are so many variables: what you just ate, if you just came up a flight of stairs etc.

It's a bit high, and could relate to high blood pressure. You need to get exercise. Rather than monotonous jogging, you need to play a sport twice a week with short bursts of intense activity, such as soccer or bicycling in a terrain with some hills in it. The better you're in shape, the lower your heart rate.

no that's not too bad. Although it is a BIT high. It might be because you're anxious, you might have fever, just consumed something with caffeine. Or any other kind of stimulant that increases your heart rate. Just try and relax and take some deep breaths. You should be fine.

Are you on any meds? I took desipramine for a year before I knew it was giving me 134 resting heart rate.

That is a little high. What's your blood pressure? That's the real key.
