there are many formulations of soymilk. some taste more like real milk than others. i'd recommend 'silk' brand as pretty close to the real thing. plain soymilk doesn't taste like much of anything to me - chalky water.

Yes, it does. Soy milk is an acquired taste....you have to give it time.

The consistency is thicker and if you are allergic to soy, it can wreck havoc on your stomach. BUT on the other hand, it is better for you than cow's milk. Cow milk is full of blood, puss, antibiotics, steriods and other crap that is not good for us. As a matter of fact, the so-called vitamins and minerals found it cow's milk (Vitamin D, calsium) is added to the milk during its processing....so it's not really a natural source for it.

Vanilla soy milk is quite delicious on cereals (especially sugary ones!) and the plain is not too bad either. If you prefer a milk replace with a thinner consistency, you might try rice milk. I drink that every day and the thickness is very close to a cow's skim milk (which is what I drank before my conversion).
There are many brands to try like Silk, 8th Continent, Soy Dream. Rice Dream, etc. Most of them are sold in small packages at the grocer, so you can pick up just a little and try it. Each brand tastes different, so one company may have the right flavor and consistency you're looking for.

They don't taste the same, but it depends on what taste you like, since soy milk comes in plain (hard to drink for people not used to it), sweetened, vanilla, chocolate, very vanilla, etc... And all brands use different amounts of this flavoring. I like the vanilla, the Silk refrigerated brand tastes like light vanilla milkshake to me.

Although vanilla almond milk is also quite good.

Soy milk has a higher viscosity. The taste is not drastically different, but the texture takes getting used to. It's not bad, but it's different. I drink it pretty much every day now.

It does taste very different, yes.. You have to get used to it, if you're used to cow's milk.

I actually prefer RICE Milk (Rice dream original).. that's very appropriate for people used to skim milk, because it's waterier. That's how I like it though.. In fact, if I'm eating breakfast at my brother's house and have eto use their soymilk on my cereal, I pour it in a cup and add a bit of water first LOL.. They get this stuff that's too thick and creamy.. YEACH..

Yes, but is delicious and better for you - especially the vanilla flavored when used in smoothies or on oatmeal or cereal! Plus , you can get it low fat if you like , which seems to be a little less thick than the regular. Try it!!

YES! It's nasty. I drink Lactaid milk because I'm lactose intolerant, you can't even tast the different between lactaid and real milk. Soy tastes like frosted flakes milk left overs.

soy milk is actually sweeter than cows milk. its also better for you. and your body will be able to function on it, as cows milk has enzymes that turn into opiates in the digestive track.
