Surveys show that vegetarians live 5 years longer on average.

BUT, is that just down to the diet ?

vegetarians are more likely to think about other aspects of life like general health and fitness than an average meat-eater.

Vegetarians live longer. We are less likely to develop cancers, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.

It's not just b/c vegetarians do not eat meat. There are other reasons. The vegetarian diet is higher in fruit, vegetables and fibre - all which have proved to be great ways to ward off eventually-fatal health problems.
Vegetarians tend to exercise more as well.

There is no data that says 100% that one lives longer than the other, there is from study data, a suggestion that one kind lives longer than the other but his is based on set of people and is not a example of the whole human race.

I agree 100% with Michael H on this one. I think that all things in moedration are good. If you want to drink some that is fine just don't do it every night. If you want to eat red meat that is fine just don't do it every day. Exercise is the major key, I think, to healthier living and therefore a healthier lifestyle may increase your longevity. However, your genetics obviously play a major role in this as well.

The only thing that has been proven is that non vegetarians (especially die hard red meat eaters) have a higher rate of many diseases that kill.

it has nothing to do with whether or not you eat meat ... it has to do with having a healthy overall diet and lifestyle ...
