I have had a severe cough for three weeks. At first I started out with common cold symptoms. Two weeks later the symptom now is my cough and the broken capilaries in my face from coughing so hard. I am coughing up mocus, its white/ clear. I have tried expecterants, they thin the mocus to the point I can't cough it up. I started taking Nyquil last night, I actually got some sleep! But regreted it in the morning. I have never had anything like this before.

Consult your doctor. I think its allergy. I have that kind of cough before with white mucous. I used clarithine.(prescripted by my doctor). Ask your doctor first before taking any medicines.

Because the color of the mucous is clear, do not take antibiotics yet, unless prescribed by your doctor.

Since the mucus is clear, It sounds like you may have bronchitis. You could try a medicine that is cough suppressant only - so you get all the other junk. Delsym is a good choice - it last 12 hours, so you can at least get some sleep.

I know more then a few people who have had this long lasting cold in the past months. I think you need a decongestant, not an expectorant.
Take large doses of vitamin C (1,000mg in morning & 1,000mg at night) for about a week. Get all the sleep you can & lots of juice & liquids.
I wish you well.
