Can someone explain our state after we die? What I mean is, can someone provide the information on what happens when we pass away and wait for Jesus? I know that we sleep, but is there anything else that I should know?

We don't sleep? I knew it. We don't wait either, then, right?

Can those who believe in the dormant state of the spirit please give scriptures from the Bible?

Can those who believe in the instant arrival to Heaven please give scriptures from the Bible?

I have taken into account the stories about the atheists who have converted because of their experiences in hell. I'm wondering, though, if the instant arrival to another 'place' is only for those who have not accepted Jesus Christ into their hearts.

I have heard some people say we go straight to heaven when we die, and some say we sleep in Christ. This is what I believe. Luke 23:42-43 describe Jesus’ assurance to the thief on the cross that he would be saved. “And he said unto Jesus, Lord; remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.” These words were spoken on Friday afternoon just before Jesus died. It appears that in this verse Jesus is telling the thief he would that day (Friday) be with the Lord in paradise; thus, this verse seems to contradict the other verses showing death to be like a very deep sleep, without consciousness. Now let’s consider John 20:17, where Jesus, talking with Mary on Sunday morning after His resurrection, said, “Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: But go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and you’re God.” So, on Sunday morning Jesus made the statement that He had not yet been to paradise, to God the Father. How, then, could He have told the thief on the cross that he would be in paradise on Friday evening with Jesus when He Himself would not be there? Since Luke 23:43 is the only verse that stands in contradiction with the other verses, there must be some problem with the one verse in Luke. The difficulty can be resolved easily. The original Greek text was written without punctuation. Punctuation was added later by the translators. The problem with this verse is the placement of the comma before the words “To day.” If the comma is placed after the words “To day,” the verse says that Jesus on that day promised the thief that he would be with Him in paradise after the resurrection. This verse would then agree with the other verses of Scripture concerning death. It should therefore read, “Verily I say unto thee today, that thou shalt be with me in Paradise.” Jesus promised the thief “today” a place in paradise after the resurrection. Remember that the entire Bible must agree with itself; this is one of the methods God has given us so that we might know when we have these difficult verses interpreted correctly. Remember also that the original text had no punctuation and that the problem is with the comma, which was put there by a translator who did not understand.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 says: Now also we would not have you ignorant, brethren, about those who fall asleep [in death], that you may not grieve [for them] as the rest do who have no hope [beyond the grave]. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will also bring with Him through Jesus those who have fallen asleep [in death]. For this we declare to you by the Lord's [own] word, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord shall in no way precede [into His presence] or have any advantage at all over those who have previously fallen asleep [in Him in death]. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud cry of summons, with the shout of an archangel, and with the blast of the trumpet of God. And those who have departed this life in Christ will rise first. Then we, the living ones who remain [on the earth], shall simultaneously be caught up along with [the resurrected dead] in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so always (through the eternity of the eternities) we shall be with the Lord!
If there were people already in heaven it would not say to meet the Lord, because they would have already met Him. †

The Bible gives us some hints about this very question you ask. When Jesus was praying, Moses and Elijah appeared to him in Spirit form, they were not dead, but alive and talking with Jesus. The Book of Revelation also tells us that the saints who have died in Christ are in heaven, dressed in white and waiting underneath the throne of God. These saints ask Jesus when He will take revenge on the world for the way the world treated them. Whether or not these saints are from the beginning of creation, or just from the Tribulation period, it shows they are conscious and aware of what is going on around them. Satan wants you to believe you will simply rot in the ground, God says otherwise. Praise The Holy Lamb Of God!!!

Some believe that there is what is called a soul sleep, that we are unconscience after we die until resserection day. This belief is not accepted by traditional/orthodox christianity. It is a heresy.

Paul said that absent from the body is present with the Lord.

When we die, if we believe in Jesus we go to heaven, if we do not, we go to hell. Except for the anti-christ, the false prophet, and possibly Judas, as well as those who have lost their salvation.

I wouldn't worry about the loss of salvation as thats a very very difficult thing to do. But if you want to learn more read here:

If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. The bible does not state that none who cry Lord Lord will enter in, it states that not all that cry Lord Lord will enter in. This refers to those with a "head" knowledge of Jesus Christ and not a "heart" knowledge and a trusting on Jesus.

Our flesh is not saved, only our souls.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
For the Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

At death, our spirit separates from our physical body and goes to the world of spirits to continue learning, growing, and helping others do the same. At some point the spirit will be reunited with a perfected physical body in what is called the resurrection, never to be separated again.

The scriptures talk about this, but we can gain additional insight by paying attention to living prophets who are once again on the earth, helping us to understand the answer to this and other questions.

There are some short videos at the last web site listed below that describe the purpose of earth life and more about what happens after we die.

Rev.6:9 When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held.
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”
11 Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.

Jesus told the one man on the Cross, "today you will be with me in paradise" No waiting. Sleep in the bible was another word for death.

Also the bible says, "After death comes judgment".
There's no sleeping in a grave. Look at Lazarus and the poor man.

I agree that we do not sleep, but are either with Jesus or hell. When I was dying, I was starting to come out of my body. I knew as soon as I left my toes that I would be standing before Jesus and He was going to say to me "Well done good and faithful servant".

As for now it seems that you are enjoying your youth probably at the age 70 up to God's will. Think about it.

Are you ready to face death. If no, use your strength, youthfulness, enregy in loving God and serving neighbour.
