This is what I did for my daughter. But she only had girls. There is this place in town. You book the place. The girls go in and get their hair styled. Like a prom hair style. then they get a make over and their nails down. Then you take them out to a nice restaurant. What made it fun for my daughter was that we had it be semi formal. So the girls wear nice dresses. They really felt special and it was very elegant. We took lots of pictures. We ordered sparkling cider and they drank from champagne glasses. It was a lot of fun. That year I went way out and spent a lot of money. I rented a limo. Each girl was picked up at her house in the limo. Then the girls were taken to the salon. Then we went out to eat. We went out of town, so the girls could have a longer ride in the limo. For the birthday girl being my daughter they fixed her hair and they had a fake crown or teara thing they put in her hair.

Have a pizza buffet and dance party
When my daughter turned 13 we sent invitations out that looked like a CD on one side and a pizza on the other. then the day before we chopped and diced all kinds of different topping you can put on a pizza, pepperoni, tiny sausage balls, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, spinach, chicken, ham, hamburger, broccoli, olives, any thing else you can think of, then we made sauces, Alfredo, tomato, BBQ, ranch and poured in tubs, The day of the party we made a bunch of small pizza crusts and baked them about 8 minutes, enough to set them so they wouldn't take to long to finish.{make sure you make 2 or 3 shells for each guest} Line up shells first, then the sauces then toppings and finally different kinds of cheese. Let every one make their own pizza it's fun and cheap.
We had every on bring their favorite CD, We cleared the living room out and decorated like a dance club, We had small prizes for the best, silliest, and worst dancer. We also bought a bunch of the cheap disposable cameras and put them around and encouraged everyone to take lots of pictures then we had double prints made when we had them developed, one for her scrap book and one to give to her guest for their memories
