I would sit on it but inside I'd be hating it and, although I'd try to, it would be hard to think of other things while sitting on it. I wouldn't refuse to sit on it because I wouldn't want to make my host feel uncomfortable. I'd probably try and avoid sitting down for as long as I could but then would sit on it in the end if it was unavoidable. I think that refusing to sit on it would make my host feel negatively towards vegans which wouldn't help our cause much so I wouldn't mention anything and just grin and bear it. The important thing is I wouldn't be gaining any enjoyment from it.
If it was a close friend though then I'd ask for another chair but that's only because it would be impossible for me to offend my best friends. I've let them bring meat to my house so they'd understand if I didn't want to sit on leather.

My dad has leather sofas. When I first went veg and made my first post-veg trip down, I sat on another chair. However, the longer I've been vegan, the more I accept some things. If someone has a leather sofa, I'll deal. If I have to ride in a car with leather seats, I deal. Of course, I would never buy leather anything, but if it's between sitting on a leather sofa and the floor, I'll sit on the sofa.

An Answer from a Vegetarian Answer: I also say it's slightly hypocritical, but it does depend on whether you're a vegetarian for moral or dietary reasons. If for moral reasons, then it is hypocritical. I have been vegetarian (not vegan) for 8 years and I refuse to wear leather or suede or support the leather industry at all (furniture, clothing, accessories like shoes, purses, wallets, etc.). ( vegatarian Link Lost It) Thus Most Vegetarians Think You shouldn't

i'm a vegetarian and i would indeed sit on a leather sofa (infact my friend has one and i sit on it pretty much everyday)
i don't have a probelm with leather because it's better to use the whole cow than just eat the meat and waste the rest.
although leather sofas are really annoying - you sit on it then just slip right off again! hehe
you must be a very thoughtful person to take this into consideration :)

Hi, This is a good question, I never thought of this one before, I bet they havent either. I know a few vegetarians and vegans that have leather sofas, so I wonder what they will say to this one.

Personally I'm not either, though a friend of mine who's a vegan won't even wear leather shoes, so I very much doubt she'd sit on your sofa! lol

Well Ive been vegetarian for 15 plus years and my wife and sons are both veggie. I would sit on your sofa no problem, however i wouldn't buy one myself.
If someone is offended by what you chose to have in your own home then they should not be there.

Myself and friends of mine have pulled countless leather pieces of furniture of the side of the road during collection times.
I wont eat meat by principle but throwing out an entire couch just because its not 'cool' anymore is a load of bullshit, regardless of whether its made from leather or not.
im certainly not going to buy any leather furniture ever.
im also certainly not going to bring a chair or sit on the floor at every house that happens to have leather furniture :/
