I currently dont eat any meat but i do take in dairy. However, the past month, i've been getting headaches which seem to originate from my temples. I learned that a iron deficiency can cause the arteries near your brain to swell and cause headaches. I've had a blood test and i know i'm low on iron. I tried taking supplement, and eating more iron rich foods but nothing has worked. SHould i start to eat seafood? Or should i become entirely meat eater, i dont want to become a meat eater but i cant take these headaches anymore.

I feel so bad for you D;
I'm a vegetarian, And I have Anemia. I've had it since I was 8, and I've only been a Vegetarian for 4 months. I'm now 14 years old.
I get headaches all the time. When I was younger, My anemia would go away, but now it has returned...

I tried eating iron rich foods
Cooked Spinach, Broccoli, cabbage,
things of that sort.
NOTHING WORKED.

So, I went to plan B.

I started eating RAW iron rich foods.
I've started this two weeks ago.
And guess what!?
Anemia is almost COMPLETELY gone.

The reason I wasn't taking in the iron, was because the way I cooked my iron-enhanced foods, took out the nutritional value.

I suggest you do the same.

Eat raw, (Rinsed, Of Course) Broccoli, Lettuce, things of that sort.
It's Sure to work.
I feel a lot better now, And my headaches have decreased dramatically!

I wish you the best of luck, darling!

Peace and Love! <3

The dairy could be causing your headache.

Also, spinach has a LOT of iron it it. Try making a green smoothie:

1 cup filtered water
2 hand fulls of fresh spinach
3 frozen bananas

Blend until smooth. You can also add a hand full of strawberries, or an apple, or an orange, or some papaya, or mango, or ????

This is VERY good and iron rich!!! Try it for breakfast. It's what I make for my breakfast every morning.

Maybe you could stop eating dairy. I hear dairy causes problems with iron absorption. Many people who eat dairy don't have a problem because they eat iron-rich meat. But since it's causing you problems, you might want to try that.

And when you eat iron-rich foods, make sure you also eat something with vitamin C to increase iron absorption.

Did you ask your doctor if the HA was from iron deficiency? I think most doctors can help you determine the cause and can suggest a nutritionist who can help you in any deficiency.

You may be taking to many supplements. Scale down on the supplements. Don't take them every day. Drink a lot of water and don't mix supplements with your regular medication.

I hope that this helps.

It's your choice, so do whatever you think is best. Just keep in mind that meat is very important to keep balanced nutrition. You also have more choices for protein that when your'e a vegetarian.
