I just opened a fresh jackfruit. I am sharing it with friends and family. It is great. Do you like jackfruit?

Barry K, that is pretty cool. You can't get any fresher than that. When my family still lived in the US, we had a gardener who liked jackfruit and planted a tree. Unfortunately, we moved to the UK before it started producing fruit.

Actually, we had a custom built greenhouse with very tall ceilings. The greenhouse is still there. The people who bought the home decided to keep it.

I've tried Jackfruit when in Asia, it was very nice. I presume when you lived in the States that you lived in Florida as the Jackfruit tree only thrives in humid tropical and near-tropical climates. There are less than a dozen jackfruit trees in Florida, none known in any other states because of the climate and they are regarded as a curiousity by many there as it is so unusual to be able to grow the tree outside of Asia and South America.

Edit: Well I hope that Greenhouse is big enough then seeing as Jackfruit trees are one of the fastest growing fruit trees and can grow up to 50 feet tall!

i love jackfruit! we actually have a jackfruit tree in our backyard. if we have a large jackfruit and we are sure that we would be unable to consume the whole thing in a couple of days, we usually remove the seed from the flesh and then cook the flesh in a syrup to make something like a jackfruit preserve. then we store it in the fridge, and we enjoy it for a longer time

Yes. The ripe flesh is a great dessert. The unripe ones (including seeds) can be cooked and eaten. They have a subtle flavor and artichoke-like texture.
