Good to hear you are going to the Dr. I have had strep many times, as a youth, and it is not fun. The Physician will take a throat swab, and you will know in a matter of minutes. Having strep does not necessarily mean you will have white spots. Those spots could indicate tonsillitis. None the less, both are bacterial issues that require antibiotic treatment. I could always tell when I had this when the throat gland on the side of the offensive area was swollen. IN addition, I felt as if someone had taken rubbing alcohol to my throat, as it was painful. In the time you are waiting for the appointment, drink PLENTY of fluids. Try eating popcycles, ice cream, or something with ICE in it- Avoid pop @ this time. Juice or plain water are the best. Try taking Ibuprophen, up to 800 mg every 6 hours, for the pain/inflammation. Continue with the Cepacol, if this isn't helping, get some other lozengen to assist with the discomfort. If you are running a high fever, you can alternate Tylenol/Ibuprophen every 2 hours. Take these meds as directed, but this may assist with the pain. I feel for you. Hope this helped. Good luck and take care- Hope to hear follow up on this. Try to get some rest today. When I had this happen, my ear would always hurt, too. The white spots mean nothing. Hope to hear follow up. You looked in ur throat and saw no white spots. Don't worry about this. There IS something going on. Strep generally doesn't have the white spots everybody is suggesting.

Strep would mean you have a very high fever also. Look at your glandes in the back of your throat and see if they have white spots on them or are swollen and red. If none of the above, it could be the beginning of a bad cold.
First you get a bad sore throat, then you start sneezing, then your nose runs, followed by a nasty cough. It lasts for about a week. Hope ya feel better.

Do you have allergies or a stuffy nose?? Post nasal drip (I know it sounds icky...sorry) can cause sore throats, often on one side or the other. Strep gives you a nasty sore throat, often with white pockets on your tonsils. You'd also have a fever, body aches, and feel generally ill. Your doctor will be able to do a quick swab of your throat if he/she suspects strep to give you a difinitive answer. In the mean time, drink plenty of fluids (water or juice; nothing carbonated or with caffeine) and get some rest. Good luck!

I usually look for the "colonies" or "clusters" of yellowish or white looking masses growing on the rear of your throat or tonsils.
If you are just red in there then I kinda doubt you have strep.
Sinus drainage can do the same thing.
Try using an antihistamine and gargle warm salt water several times a day to dissolve any phlegm and seen how you feel in 24 hrs.

If you look in the mirror and see little white spots in the back of your throat, more than likely you have strep. But without the white spots (looks like little white spots or puss pockets) it might not be. Check for the white spots in the back of the throat.

Not sure, not even the doctor will know for certain, without a throat culture, glad you have an appt. If he suspects it is strep he will give you an antibiotic, while waiting for the strep results.

Some signs of strep are high fevers, very painful throats, often severe difficulty swallowing, and pus which can sometimes be seen covering the tonsils. Make sure you keep your doc appt or go sooner if your symtons get worse then they are now.

possibly. strep is also commonly associated with fever and vomiting, but I've had it where I felt perfect. Better than ever. Go to the doctor. That's what I would do.
